A twist on the classic pounding benchOct 30, 2013
By M. Wright
There weren't many reviews on this, so it was a bit of a gamble, but so far it seems to be holding up well. Many of the other peg pounding benches we tried had pegs that you could push through way too easily. This one takes several hard hits from my two year old before it is flush. The pegs are held in by some kind of plastic/silicone ring, like in most other modern peg pounders. It's pretty hard to push them all the way through, and so far my son hasn't been able to get them out. The colors are different than pictured, less muted. The hammer feels pretty sturdy.

One of the earliest toys I remember playing on is pounder. Now sixty years later I'm buying one for my grandson to enjoy. This example is beautifully executed. Resistance to pounding is neither too hard nor too easy. Very rugged, its corners are rounded and all surfaces are smooth. As nice an implementation as you'll ever find.

Perfect learning tool...simple and sturdy. It's a classic and a throwback to the time my children played with similar toys.

Bought for granddaughter's first birthday, but she just wants to pound "other" things at this age, so her parents have put away the hammer for now. (Package rates as appropriate for 18 months, so we expected to be a bit too early for this toy.)
Chose this particular model because of the green product materials and dyes, as well as the smooth edges and finish.

Really great toy, you beat the columns in and then flip and beat some more. I love it is mad from wood with non toxic stains.
