Great Thomas set; lots of pieces for the priceOct 10, 2010
By S. Montgomery
"green dad"
This Thomas and Friends set has a lot of parts and add ons for $100. You get the two-story high hills, along with a barrell loader, crane, and boat dock. You can spend the same and just get a figure eight with one station. It also comes with 3 trains, including Thomas, Mavis and a freight/barrell car. This has been a great addition to my sons ever-growing Thomas set, and has allowed us to do some great layouts with the new hills. One os the highest quality toys you can buy for kids.

High qualityDec 14, 2010
By Joanna I got this wonderful set for my 2 1/2 year old daughter. It comes with many parts including the trains Thomas (blue) and Mavis (black). I separately got the quarry mine tunnel which is a must. I also got four more trains - James (red), Percy (green), Rosie (purple), Molly (yellow) - so my daughter will have one of each color. She has so much fun with the set along with the extras just mentioned. Btw you don't have to put the train tracks in the same layout as shown in the picture. Play around with them and make a different layout whenever you want.

great wooden train set!Jun 02, 2011
By Krista This train set includes quite a few interesting pieces for a reasonable price (97$ when we bought it). We would not buy the single items separately because of their higher cost when sold separately. Our son (2.5 year old) likes all the pieces...he likes to press the buttons on railroad crossing accessory and flip the bars open and closed. The crane is rough build...there are some rough edges (but not such a problem that I would return the item)...it consists of two separate parts,-- bottom support and the blue cabin. The blue cabin has small round wooden stump on the bottom which fits into a hole on the support. There is no permanent attachment. At first this seems unstable set-up, but it works. Our son has no problem "assembling" the crane himself. He likes the idea of transferring cargo from the boat to the train. Flipping barrels of sand into the wagon also is fun. This set comes with one barrel only. But for additional barrels see Toby's Windmill which comes with two barrels and currently has better price than expensive barrel cars by themselves. One can use stacked risers to run another track underneath the elevated track (to get Figure Eight or similar to over and under bridge.....many possibilities)...with additional track pieces different layouts are possible. All in all, this can be a good starter set or fun addition to existing pieces. Our son spends good amount of time pushing his trains around the track.

Thomas the Train Quarry AdventuresApr 01, 2011
By Nancy T I purchased this set as a gift for my 3 year old grandson who loves everything "Thomas". It was a tremendous hit with him. None of his other Thomas sets had the variety of platforms, docks, switches, ramps, etc. that this set has. To set it up as illustrated took a little bit of Mommy and Grandpa's time and proved a bit frustrating when it appeared a crucial piece was missing. As it turned out, one ramp piece has a little slide out piece that holds the wooden rail in position. Owen played with the set for hours on end every day for 3 days. Then, he decided to get creative--he took all of the pieces apart and reassembled them into over 20 different configurations. Not every configuration resulted in a continous track set up, but he loved all the different ways he could play with the trains. The Thomas the Train wooden railway set is sturdy and well constructed and should provide for years of creative play. Since Owen already has over 100 pieces of the wooden Thomas tracks, he will be able to combine this set with the other pieces and really create some amazing configurations! I would highly recommend this set to everyone. Owen has some of the plastic Thomas train tracks and sets, but he prefers the wooden ones--so do all of the adults in the family. The plastic ones don't fit together as well or as easily. My advice--spend the extra money on the wooden sets and you won't be disappointed--nor will your little one!

Great pieces in this set!Sep 21, 2011
By Lisa T. This is a great set with lots of fun pieces. The huge hills are great, and my son loves the barrel loader, railroad crossing, and crane. Be aware that the price really seems to fluctuate on this set (I've seen it anywhere from $80-$150). I don't think it's worth $150, but it has been well worth the $100 that we ended up paying for it. My 2 1/2 year old plays with his Thomas trains daily and I felt like this was a decent deal for what you get.
