BRIDGES | Home » » » THOMAS THE TANK TRAIN WOODEN - SUDDERY SWING BRIDGE | | | | | | | Description: | | The Suddery Swing Bridge is perfect for expanding your Thomas Wooden Railway set when you're running short on space. This elevated bridge lets train traffic cross over other tracks without causing any scary crashes. Two pieces of ascending track lead to a rotating turntable bridge - when the bridge is in place, trains can pass over the track below. Turn the bridge 90x and let traffic on the ground pass through. Stops signs automatically pop up to direct traffic safely. Includes two pieces of Ascending Track. | | | Product Details: | | | Product Length:

Fun but hard to fit into a layoutDec 20, 2009
By Rachel K. Noah
"Momma Rachel"
This piece is fun, no doubt, and, it is well-constructed as are all of the Thomas items. I compared this piece with the Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway - Rumblin Bridge and Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway - Deluxe Over-The-Track Signal and purchased this piece for my son. I wish I'd gone with the signal.
This piece (and the rumblin bridge which is the same idea) takes up a LOT of space on the board and really I am not sure if we will be able to integrate it into our layout... ever. The bridge part will be fun but to use the under passes takes a serious collection of the 3 1/2 curves to fully utilize, and a lot of empty table space. Because the tracks pass underneath this piece has to be smack dab in the middle of the set, or combined with a lot of elevated pieces which is very advanced building. You need a piece of ascending track on each side (included) which makes the piece take up about 70% of the table length. If you have other major pieces like the roundhouse or buildings you may not be able to use this one at all.
Instead I'd really recommend the Deluxe Over-the-Track Signal (linked above) for the underpass equivalent or the Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway - Sodor Bay Bridge for the bridge action. Just run regular track under that for the same idea and a MUCH more flexible space.

Suddery Swing Bridge Has Cool FeaturesMay 20, 2011
By Rebecca L. Zullo My son is what you would call a Thomas the Tank Wooden Railway expert. Our attic has one of the finest Thomas Wooden Railway collections ever. The Suddery Swing Bridge was a welcome addition to his layout. It has a very cool feature: when the bridge swings away from the railway, the stop signs automatically swing up to prevent engines from tumbling down. It works the other way too: when the bridge swings back into alignment with the tracks, the stop signs automatically swing out of sight. It is a well-made and well-designed bridge. We found it for a discounted price on Amazon for his birthday and we are pleased with it. Highly recommended. I think it is my favorite bridge. He has about 4 other wooden Thomas bridges.
Thomas Swing BridgeMar 09, 2012
By Tony As mentioned in the other reviews, this is one fun bridge! My 2.5 yr old loves it! Even though it is difficult to build this into a layout because of the over and under features, my son loves it just as a plain bridge that can be "opened and closed". I gave this bridge a 4 star rating because, although fairly well built, there is one minor annoyance with our bridge. The swinging mechanism seems to be a spring with detents, to stop the bridge in certain positions. When you swing the bridge around and round, it makes clicking noises. However, fairly often, the bridge loses "index" and does not line back up with the straight section of track. When my son "closes" the bridge, and wants to drive the trains over it, sometimes the mis-alignment causes the trains to derail. I was able to figure out a workaround. By firmly holding the base of the bridge down, and "lifting" up in the swinging position while turning it back into the closed position, it seems to reset the neutral indexed position, lining the track back up. Other than this annoyance, it's a great bridge and fun for the little one!
A challenge!Jan 23, 2012
By Talvi Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R251E1WSRZZGNF This bridge is a challenge for your Thomas wooden set. First, once you attach the ramps, it is pretty long. It takes up quite a bit of my Thomas table. Second, it has two perpendicular tracks under the bridge. Trying to get those two attached into your set is a REAL challenge!
Like:
+ Clever design - the bridge has little levers that pop up to make a stop sign when you turn the bridge + Easy to grab and turn for little hands + Very nice construction
It is big enough for one engine and one train car to be turned around.
In the video, my son set up just this bridge and a bridge from an Imaginarium set (Imaginarium City Train Set) with a special connector (Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway - Adapt-a-Track (2 Pieces)) to make a "shake shake" bridge.

By Momma of 2 This is one fun bridge. Does take up more room since there are lots of options for track designs. Kids and parents love it!
