Description:

The Talking Railway Series brings the world of Thomas & Friends to life like never before. With its built-in engine recognition technology, each Talking Railway Series vehicle activates personalized greetings from Sir Topham Hatt himself at Talking Railway Series destinations. Hear Sir Topham Hatt recognize the engines by name..."Rosie, you are right on time!" and "Hello, Percy" or "Thomas, you must stop at the red signal." The more Talking Railway engines you add, the more interactive your world becomes! Each destination features unique phrases...a new experience every time! The classic Thomas train play patterns take on a new twist with the "magical" engine recognition technology--making this a truly unique addition to the Thomas Wooden Railway system.

5Emily from the Talking Railway SeriesJan 29, 2011
By Talvi
The Talking Railway Series features train pieces such as Cranky and a Waterton station that have Sir Topham Hatt talk to each train when they are close to that piece. For example, Sir Topham Hatt will say, "Toby, Cranky is ready to load the cargo" when Toby rolls over the track by Cranky. My 3 year old loves it without noticing the technology behind the set's ability to recognize and speak to each individual engine as he moves them around the tracks.

Emily is a great addition to the set as she is the only female engine (from the main 8 engines from the series). The sets revolve around the feature The Great Discovery, the feature in which Thomas goes wandering and discovers the long lost town of Waterton, which Sir Topham Hatt rebuilds. One of the set pieces is the mine which Thomas falls into.

Note that Emily herself doesn't talk - she's part of the Talking Railway series that recognizes her and talks to her. This can get confusing because there are wooden engines out there that do talk - Talking Thomas, Talking James, and Talking Percy for example (not to be confused with Talking Railway Thomas, Talking Railway James, and Talking Railway Percy). Talking James takes one AA battery and says three different things when you press a button on top of his cabin (and makes his whistle sound).

So just realize when purchasing this item that you won't get the maximum benefit unless you own one of the pieces from the Talking Railway series (Brendam docks/Cranky, Brendam Barrel Company, Morgan's Mine, Talking Railway Knapford Station, Talking Railway oval set, and Waterton Station). These can be added on to your regular wooden Thomas sets and you'll find that Emily and the other engines are the same high quality as the regular wooden sets.

4A Nice TrainFeb 02, 2011

Our son really wanted an Emily engine for his wood train after his uncle accidently got him a trackmaster engine. So, I found this one. It is all wood which I wasn't sure from the description. It gets a little beat up from his two metal battery powered engines. Also, the talking component only works with compatible accesories. It is my fault for not researching it further. However, Emily works just fine as a regular wood train and fits on his track nicely.

4A bit disappointedJan 25, 2011

I purchased Emily as a Christmas present for my 3 year old granddaughter. She has a couple of other Thomas trains that talk, and this one is advertised as Talking Railway Emily - but she doesn't talk. Quite disappointed as my granddaughter loves to press the little button and hear her trains talk to her. The Emily train is sturdy and although she doesn't talk she loves adding her to her other collection.
