5Hurray for jobi wood!Dec 24, 2011
By Talvi
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R10Q3Z4CT5ZEFO My 3 year old has loved Misty Island Rescue for a long time. In the movie, Thomas gets accidentally transported to Misty Island and meets Bash, Dash, and Ferdinand, the logging locos. On this island, Thomas goes across the shake shake bridge, checks out the jobi wood logmill, and sees Old Wheezy, the crazy crane. The three locos are a little zany and laugh a lot. They just like to have fun.

They bring something different and fun to the Thomas world, though honestly I still can't tell Bash and Dash apart. But what is important to my son is not so much Dash...it's the jobi wood. In the beginning of the movie, Diesel steals the honor of taking the jobi wood to the new Sodor Search and Rescue center, and is chased by Thomas. However, the bridge isn't finished, and as Diesel comes to a screeching halt, the jobi wood flatbeds he was shunting fall one by one into the sea below.

This is one of my son's favorite things to act out, though before he got this, he had to use the Sodor coal cars he had. Now, he has the real thing - a flatbed with a jobi log! There is joy in my household.

Dash is typical wooden set construction, which means his main section is wood but has plastic pieces and plastic wheels and magnetic couplings. The log car is all plastic, and when you take the log and press it into the flatbed, it locks into place. If you press the "Logging Station" sign on the side of the car, the log goes popping out. I'm not sure why, but the log top isn't solid...it has a little plastic bit in the middle that you can see. It doesn't matter to him though. You can see Dash in the video at the end or in the photo I attached.

Love it!

5Yes, it jumpsMar 14, 2012

I don't know why I didn't pick up on it sooner but the jobi wood is spring loaded and pops off when you press the logo on the side of the car. Unfortunately it takes very, very little pressure to set it off which means it's actually more difficult to keep the wood snapped in than anything else. We bought the set so we had the second half of the Bash and Dash pair so the jobi wood car was a bonus. I don't know if they sell a Dash without the car but had I come across that I would have bought that. The jobi car is neat but it isn't played with much and the wood is never used since it's a bit difficult to keep snapped in, especially for a 2-3 year old.

5Awesome! The log is magnetic!May 22, 2012

One thing I was trying to figure out when I was reading the reviews on this product, was whether or not the indented circle shape on the top was magnetic. Yes, it is! So, not only is this a cargo car with removable cargo, but, it pops out with the push of a button(fun!) and it can be lifted up by the wooden Cranky the Crane, Rocky, and Kevin. Yes, the Jobi wood pops out very easily if your fingers are holding the middle of the cargo car, but I showed my 3 year old son an alternate way to hold it(in front of the button, in the back, behind the button, or by holding it on the ends, above the cargo car's connecting magnets.) I can tell he loves when it pops out, he kind of jumps in surprise and his smile tells me this was a great purchase.

I am very pleased. I would recommend this for any Thomas fan, especially those who are enthralled with cause and effect, magnets, and a little bit of unpredictability(the fun of it is, you never know if the log will go flying far or just drop over the side). To make sure this isn't misunderstood- no, the log doesn't fly out some crazy, long distance. It seems to travel an average maximum of a few inches or so. Then again, with some creativity, all sorts of scenarios can impact the distance, speed, and direction that the Jobi log goes(I am not a natural with physics, etc, though, so I don't know the exact limitations). Building some uphill and downhill tracks, and incorporating some crashes may make for a fun way to make predictions, measure distances, and keep tally on a graph, as math skills grow.

Another thing that is worth mentioning: there is some plastic in this set, but it seems to be necessary for the mechanical functioning of the log to pop in and out. The log itself is made of wood, and it seems that the cargo car that carries the log is made entirely of plastic, except for the magnets in the front and back. I did just now notice there seem to be two "screws" on the bottom of the log cargo car, but I don't know what kind of tool could unscrew them. They have a solid triangle indent shape.

I almost forgot! A fun game my son and I play is "bashing" and "crashing" other engines into the button, so on impact, the log goes flying. Oh, the giggles that follow.. This set of Dash and the Jumping Jobi Wood, as well as Rocky and Cranky the Crane are some of my favorites, as well as my son's. We are magnet-aholics! For those who love the wooden Thomas line that have removable, magnetic cargo: another really fun set we picked up is the Cookie Factory Cargo Pack. (3 of the 5 cars have a magnet on the top and are compatible with wooden Cranky and Rocky)

I can't express how well my expectations were met with this product, especially when the total price ended up being cheaper than the average single large wooden train from the Thomas line.

5So fun!Feb 25, 2012

My son has a habit of collecting all the Thomas and Friends for his wooden track, This is no exception. He absolutely loves it and finds a ton of entertainment in the jumping Jobi wood!
