Its OK, but some of the rules are confusingApr 08, 2011
By Lonnie Cromer I bought this game for game night. My friends and I have played several other card games based on old board games (scrabble, monopoly, yahtzee and sorry). This game is fun and goes pretty fast, but some of the rules are not clear. Some cards say that you can have only 1 per life (passport, marriage) but others don't. For instance "career" cards. In the board game of life you have 1 but in this game the card doesn't say. So can you have 2? Same thing with a house; I've always wanted a vacation home. As long as you decide how you are going to play with these cards before starting things will go much smoother. We finally assumed that the cards with a "book with an atom on it" means you have to have a passport before you can play/do that adventure. So would I recommend this game? If part of a game night with other games its fine, but if you only have to pick 1 card game based on a board game I would have to recommend sorry revenge be the one. This game is more fun the sillier the story you tell as you play a card!

Where Imagination Makes the GameNov 22, 2011

Shame on the company for not giving better instructions on how this game is played. There are several aspects up the in air which you kind of have to muddle through before playing. Also, this game of "Life" is crazy with only two people (it is obviously meant to have four players) since in a two player game you end up with 7-10 children, multiple houses, and changing careers half a dozen times...
The rules are fairly simple... you play cards from your five card hand and try to tell a little story to go along with what cards you play in your Life "story". There are eight 10+ years cards hidden in the four decks you draw from (wealth, career, family and adventure) and when six of those have been discovered the game is over. You tally up your points and whoever has the most points in their "life" wins. The real fun in the game hinges on your imagination. It is rather bland unless you get into it and tell crazy stories about why you are suing the other player for one of their cards or why you are exchanging pets with them. I managed to get several ocean themed cards one game and told a story about how my family had to move out of their Lighthouse and into a Beach house because there were too many ghosts, and the swimming pool was added (one of the home improvement cards) because there were too many sharks in the ocean. They got a kick out of that... and one of my daughters begins her turn each time with "You know what's new in OUR family?" and then with giggles adds "we just went to YOUR favorite rock concert Mommy, bet you wish you were in our family" as she plays the headline rock concert cards. The kids also want to play the cards they think are more fun, and end up having less points in the end, because riding the tallest roller coasters and having a monkey for a pet doesn't gain you many points, but these are things they want to play in their Life story!
Sketchy rules, but a fun card game that stimulates the imagination. Kids can start playing this as soon as they have a good grasp of reading and game mechanics. My almost seven year old has no issues at all with this game, and picked it up within a few minutes of playing.

Fun game for kids, teens, parents, teachers, counselors.... Anyone!Jun 19, 2011

As a child, I loved the board game Life growing up because it allowed me to dream about the future. It also helped me to start understanding that life was based on choices that lead to results: go to college or not.
First of all, the card game is not as good as the board game; however, if you are looking for a somewhat quick game that you can play with your kids that has some of the same fun features of Life then buy this. As an adult, I bought this game due to the fact that I work with kids as a counselor. I wanted to find something fun in which I could start teaching the importance of having goals and dreaming about the future. This card game allowed me to get rid of the many pieces of a board game and just focus on the message in a fun way. The teens I played it with enjoyed it. After they laid out their story in front of them card by card, at the end they had a life they could be proud of overall. It led to many discussions about current choices and what one must do to be successful. To tell you the truth, this is a perfect parenting game. And if it's just kids playing, its always fun to dream!
