Description:

Have fun learning about ? and making.? shapes with one of your favorite TV friends. This adorable Elmo character has two modes of play that let you interact with your wacky pal in two fun ways. In Mode 1, he?ll help you identify shapes and then he?ll count them out as you make them with your Play-Doh modeling compound. In Mode 2, he?ll tell you which shapes he?d like you to make. You can make more Sesame Street friends, too, by stamping out characters with stampers and Play-Doh modeling compound. Test your learnings by matching up shapes to the playmat and then go back to giggles galore while playing with your Elmo character.

1Lame and AnnoyingMay 27, 2011

I don't write many reviews, but I dislike this toy so much I feel I have to. Theoretically, Elmo tells your little one which shape to make and they put in some Play-Doh, press down, and get the shape. Even as an adult, I find it nearly impossible to put the right amount of dough in to get anything that resembles a triangle or square instead of a blob. Plus, there's a circle imprinted on ALL the shapes just to make absolutely sure your kid gets totally confused and never learns what a triangle is. Lastly, it just doesn't work. Half the time Elmo chirps "Triangle!" when you've made a square. The only reason I gave it 3 stars for durability is that it hasn't broken yet (sadly) but, of course, we don't play with it much.

23-year-old doesn't seem thrilledJan 16, 2011

I got this for my 3-year-old son for Christmas. He also got a regular playdoh fun factory and his older brother got the movie popping snacks set. He really prefers the other two sets. Sure, Elmo talks to him, but the shapes aren't flat on both sides, so it's not like they're usable for other things. You're just supposed to put them in spots on a paper. I'm not saying it's not good for anyone, but he really isn't that happy with it.

3Not as fun as I had hopedJan 02, 2011

We gave this to my 2 year old for Christmas because she loves Elmo, and she has just learned most of her shapes. I was so excited about the toy but it is a bit of a disappointment to me. I got it for under $6 on Amazon the week before Christmas, so the price makes it less disappointing!

Pros:
*In mode 1 for younger kids, Elmo tells what shape is in front of him. He says encouraging things when his arms are pressed down.
*Mode 2 is pretty good for older kids. Elmo says what shape he wants made and says "oops that's a..." if the wrong one is made.

Cons:
*The smaller play doh shapes are hard to distinguish because there is a large cylinder/circle on the top of each one. It is put on there by the bottom of the mold.
*Sometimes the play doh is hard to get out of the shape mold, and if you press the blue "eject" button more than once Elmo keeps counting even if you're pressing the button multiple times trying to get ONE shape out.
*It's hard to make the shape clean around the edges.
*The removable disks required to press the shapes with Elmo's hands can be easily lost -- and their function of stamping the play doh is pointless. It would be better is there was one stationary disk.

This is something that my daughter may grow to enjoy more. I think it has the potential to be educational, I just wish it didn't have those few issues. I don't think I would buy it again or for more than I paid for it. I bought it at regular price (under $20) for a friend's child and am going to swap it for something else to give him.

4Very educational and funDec 26, 2010

I got this Elmo Play-Doh toy for my son and he hasn't played with it too long so I'm not sure about the durability of it but one thing I didn't like was the three plastic disks that you can push into Elmo's hands to squish the playdoh. These are extremely easy to loose and once they're lost I'm not sure how my son will make the shapes. I absolutely love that Elmo counts each time you press the button down and when you rotate the disk of shapes, Elmo says the shape you land on. I was extremely disappointed with the "playmat" that came with it. It was advertised that children can make shapes and then place them in the outlined shapes on the playmat. The only problem is the playmat is just a piece of paper...not laminated or anything and it was SHOVED into the box all wrinkled. Useless. Other than that, this toy is great.
