Play-Doh Pleasure!May 29, 2010
By Amy Steele
"quirky mama"
Just got this a couple of days ago at Target for about $8.00 (am I allowed to say that?) to replace an older model that I had obtained from a thrift store, and had probably originated from a dollar store. The chamber where one places the dough on the above Play-Doh model is actually smaller, while the bootleg one had a bigger chamber. Thus, the Play-Doh one makes short spaghetti, which is a little disappointing. However, my tot is able to push the lever down on the Play-Doh one, while she could not do that on the bootleg one. I have read reviews in the past about Play-Doh/related accessories, and some parents complain about clean-up on some items. Hello, life is full of messes, and it's part of the fun of being a kid and learning in general! I'd rather have an aware, grubby child as opposed to a clean robot. Anyway, we love this thing already. P.S.- You can always let leftover molecules of Play-Doh left on the accessories that you couldn't remove dry up, then just shake them out. Easy as pie. Sorry, just sayin'.
Update on 1/13/11: If you do want a dough accessory that does make longer spaghetti, I have since found out that the bootleg model that I mentioned above is "Crayola" brand, and I saw it at "Big Lots" in the art aisle. I also neglected to inform the population in general that this Fun Factory can hold Play-Doh within the main body (only mini or party-size containers), that the top side of the purple lever has six design impressions, underneath the purple lever are four small dough molds, and the back dial offers eight options for artsy dough ejection. The spaghetti one is the coolest; the other ones somehow lose definition while they are being made, or end up just looking all alike, or do not retain shape well enough for slicing into small pieces to make, for example, "cookies" (think fridge cookies here). The dial is hard for small (2, 3) kids to manipulate, but this fact does not effect my rating, as us Play-doh vets should be nearby to vicariously enjoy the fun.

Fun, but older model is betterFeb 11, 2011

I also found these cheaper at Target - wondering if it will let me say that. I thought my 2 1/2yo girls would enjoy it. They like it, and I like how easy it is for them to change the shape (dial the wheel, rather than slide in the templates) however - the chamber is smaller compared to the old one. It makes shorter shapes and it's harder to load (it's long and skinny and you access from the narrow end). So it's got some things going for it - no pieces to lose, easy to change shape - but when I had all 3 of my kids kids compare this one to the older version (which I found at the toy store) my girls seemed kind of neutral whereas my 7yo son said the old style is much better. So if you have a choice, go for the old one!
I don't really understand the benefit of being able to store a can of playdoh inside the unit so that is a non-issue to me.

Easy for a toddler to useDec 26, 2010
By A. Claymaker I bought this as a Christmas present for my 3 yr old grandson. He loved it. It was easy for him to load play dough into it. The lever is very stable and substantial so it's easy to use and won't break easily.
It's alright, not real excitingJan 19, 2012
By twobubbasmama I thought it would be a little more fun for my 4 yr old boys, who LOVE playdoh, but they don't seem too excited with it.

My 2 year old can do this all by herself - lots of fun independent play for all of our kids, no matter what age or gender.
