a great variety of blocksMar 21, 2010
By Silea First off, ignore the 'choking hazard' banner that Amazon has up there. These blocks are not small enough to be a choking hazard.
Anyway, on to the review: these blocks are great. Here's what you get: 3 sound blocks: one rattles, one jingles, and one thunks 3 visual blocks: one has a mirror, one a magnifying lens, and one a prism 3 texture blocks: each has a small cloth inset with different textures
The sound blocks are red, yellow, and blue, the texture blocks are orange, green, and purple, and the visual blocks are not dyed.
In addition to the sound/texture/visual, these blocks can be used as normal stacking blocks. They're also the same size as the cubes in the Plan Toys Shape & Sort It Out, so they fit through the square hole but not the triangle or circle holes.
And of course, all the good stuff about Plan Toys: the dyes are food-grade and totally non-toxic, the wood is from rubber trees that are no longer giving rubber, and so on.
Great toys, great company, great fun for your kids.

Great first block setSep 27, 2009

My daughter has been chewing on this block set since she was about 5 months old. I'm not worried about them going in her mouth because Plan Toys uses non toxic dyes. The primary colors have something in them to make a noise when shaken, the secondary colors have a piece of fabric on the outside for texture and the whitish blocks have a magnifying glass, kaleidescope or mirror. My daughter has noticed the noise and shakes them near her head. She hasn't done much with the textured blocks (besides chew). She loves when I stack them tall so she can knock them down. She bangs them off one another to make a knocking noise or throws them on the floor. She has learned she can crawl around with one in her hand for a mobile toy. It's great because I can always hear her and know when she is on the move. Just a warning, some of the colors rub off on light color walls. They are about 1 1/4 inches square. By far, green is my daughter's favorite!

my child loves blocks...but....Jan 08, 2011
By mary ellen pleasant I bought these for my baby when he was 10 months old....... younger than the age recommended.....so maybe thats a problem...i dont know......but my baby loves blocks so i thought he would absolutely love these.........he plays with them...but doesnt absolutely love them yet.........maybe as he gets older and really explores the difference between the blocks he will come to really love it.....
he is now a year old....and is slowly starting to finger the different textures and such.....but i wish i had of bought the HABA discovery blocks instead......the problem with these PLAN toy blocks is that the mechanisms of the blocks are not exposed........meaning....the sound blocks make noise....but baby has no way of telling how and why it makes sound.......with the HABA blocks...the mechanism is exposed......so for instance the PLAN toy sound block with the bell is completely covered and there is a tiny hole that allows the sound to escape........whereas the HABA block with the bell.....the bell is exposed......so baby can finger the bell...shake it....and then pick up the sound block with the wooden bead....finger it...shake it...and begin to understand the difference between the two.......the texture and vision blocks in the PLAN toy set are not as interesting as the ones in the HABA set as well.....
so my rec....buy the HABA blocks........and maybe these ones for a much older child.....
another thing to note....the the texture and vision blocks that come in the set are not like the ones pictured here....the textures: velvet, felt, corduroy ...are actually inset into the blocks.....so it is actually difficult for little fingers to to explore...

Great Toy InfantsAug 03, 2010
By TeachingMom These blocks are a great toy to add to your collection. My daughter has so many toys that light up and make noise, these blocks offer a "kid powered" play time!

Learning blocks- great for on the go!May 25, 2010

I have to start by saying I ADORE Plan toys. They were eco-friendly before eco was cool. It's a company I trust to not have lead paint or any other toxic materials in my kids' playthings. Their colors are vegetable based and I never worry when I see one head toward the baby's mouth.
These great blocks are smaller than most wooden blocks with a little "activity" in each one. Some have a texture, some make a noise, one you can see through. My 1 year old loves them because of their fun activities but also because they fit in the palm of his hand. They come in a great cotton bag, which makes them easy to throw in my purse for entertainment on the go. My older toddler (3.5) will play with them as well, building and making patterns with the colors. It's simple ideas like these blocks that really get those brains working and developing.
As always, I tend to give the items my kids love as gifts to friends. These are a wonderful item that has always been well received!
