Description:

No plane captures the essence of flying for fun quite like a J-3 Cub, which is why it makes such a great subject for the ParkZone line of ultra micro flyers. Anyone with a Spektrum or JR 2.4GHz DSM2TM aircraft transmitter can experience a little Cub magic with this 3-channel ultra micro flyer that you can fly just about anywhere. The ParkZone J-3 Cub can be up and flying in as little time as it takes you to charge its battery and bind it to your DSM2 transmitter. The J-3 Cub is small enough to be flown in your local gym or outdoors when winds are calm. Its realistic looks and spot-on Cub flight characteristics make for one of the most enjoyable flying experiences of any size.

4Little, Yellow, DifferentMay 09, 2010

Nice finish, although I wish they had gone through the trouble of adding some wing struts, so it would be a bit more scale.

Aside from that, this UM Cub is a great flier for pilots with a little bit of experience. It flies faster than the old Minimum Cessna, Citabria, Ember or Vapor, and will drop a wing if you stall it in a bank. It also has some power on pitch issues, rearing up and such, but you can cancel this out with a controller with expo, or fly it manually. It is terrific fun to do landings and fly landing patterns.

4Lots of fun, buy an extra shaft and prop!Dec 26, 2010
By D. C Frezza
I've flown RC airplanes for 30 years, but I've never had a park flyer. I got this one for Christmas from my wife... totally unexpected. She got this one because we used to own PA-12 Piper Cub Super Cruiser....i.e...Cub. Right out of the box this is ready to go. Charge battery( 10 minutes, sent from factory with a partial charge), don't read instructions, wind was calm, and go. I flew it in the front yard.... maybe 80' X 40' area. Big enough to have fun, but I was turning around a lot of the time. Flight time on one charge, about 3 minutes. I crashed a couple times, took off and landed from the street(wheels work). On the last flight, of 3, I hit a overhead power line, snapped the shaft, and I was done. Like another reviewer stated " it seems like they know this is the weak point because they give you detailed instructions on how to fix it in the manual ", and I agree. The shaft and a new prop are only a few dollars each, "BUT I WANT TO PLAY NOW", sorry I was 12 years old again for a minute. They should have included another shaft and prop in the box so I could stand in my front yard at 7:30 in the morning, in my PJ's, and be 12 for a little while longer.

3Great plane, very fun while it lastsNov 26, 2010

I got the bind and fly version and bound it with my radio--no problems. Worked great out of the box. Any wind at all makes it difficult to control as there are no aileron control. I've replaced the prop shaft 4 times--this is the plane's major flaw in my opinion--it breaks way too easily. If the prop shaft were more rugged I'd rate it higher, and could probably fly it longer before it is rendered useless by a broken prop shaft.

Also, it seems like they know this is the weak point because they give you detailed instructions on how to fix it in the manual, and the replacement parts are easy to find. Maybe this is part of their marketing strategy; if so, it is annoying and disappointing.

1Very CheapDec 25, 2011

As can be seen in some of the other reviews, the quality of this is poor. It is ready to go with minimal charge time and everything you need is in the box.

I was told it would be a good starter and even the guy at the store said, if you lose control stop the throttle and it will crash and you are good to go.

Needless to say, this was up in the air for about 30 seconds before I began to lose control. I zerod the throttle it crashed and the entire tail section shattered.

The plane is done in under 1 minute. Very disappointed on Christmas Morning.

3(prop) shafted!Sep 03, 2011

As mentioned elsewhere, the propellor shaft is the weak point on this model.

It's fun and easy to fly, but the slightest bump will take the shaft off. The "Champ" is a much more durable model with similar flight characteristics (I've had both of these models).

However, I think maybe I should pull my Cub down from the garage and replace the motor / gearbox combo with the one from the Champ (used by a few other newer models as well). I guess they reused an Ember motor for this model, not sure.

IF they were to upgrade the gearbox / prop shaft, this would be a great model.
