Buy the Drum InsteadJun 30, 2010 So I read the reviews about the bad sound quality and then bought the Plan Toy Solid Wood Drum instead. The drum sounds great with several different wonderful tones. My 17 month old son loves the drum and loves music so I bought the xylophone hoping it would sound as nice as the drum. It doesn't. The musical quality of the xylophone is pretty bad. I love Plan toys but this isn't one of the best. If you're considering this xylophone, I recommend the Plan drum instead.
Attractive, not musicalMay 02, 2010 My purpose in buying a child's xylophone was to teach basic concepts of scale. This one is not tuned to any scale and has minimal musical quality. It's visually soft and pretty, the keys bounce in an interesting way, as they're suspended on elastic strings, and the sound will not hurt your ears, but the tones are random. Also the head of the mallet fits into the one-year-old's mouth, so he popped it in and started tottering around; that is not safe. I'm sending it back.
A wonderful collection of pitches...Apr 06, 2010 F - B - Ab - D - Ab
Teaching my child about something other than major and minor scales. Two thumbs up!

Birthday gift for grandaughterMar 23, 2010 This was a birthday gift for a one year old grandaughter. Her parents had to take it away from her to get her to open her other gifts. It remains her choice to play with a month later. She wants it first thing in the morning and plays it much of the day. Probably the biggest hit ever for a gift for a grandchild!
generally a big plan toy fan...Mar 20, 2010 very aesthetically pleasing, does lack some musical quality. this doesn't diminish my child's entertainment level in the slightest, but it was a little disappointing. still, i'm thrilled with an instrument that isn't tinny and that my child enjoys. i just wish it had more musical quality. look forward to seeing plan toys improve this product design. :)
