More interactive puzzleFeb 10, 2010
By Melissa Watson Our 20 month old daughter received this puzzle as a gift. It is her favorite puzzle, because when you place the pieces in, the animal makes noise. The noises are a little strange, though. Some sound just like they should, but a couple make strange sounds. There is a negative about the sounds: Each piece has a sensor on the back, and in each hole there is a sensor. The idea is when you match them you get the animal sound. However, it's much more sensitive than this. If you match the wrong piece, it will still make the sound of the animal on the board, and even if you just cover it with your finger, it will make the animal's sound. I wish it actually required the correct pieces to be matched up to work. I think this would encourage children more to get things right. Our daughter does love the sounds, though, and even at just a month older, she has no problems matching the right pieces, so the sound thing isn't really an issue anymore. It is fun for her to have a puzzle that helps her work on her animal sounds. Overall, it is a good puzzle - well made, and durable.

Poorly designed, Poorly madeJul 07, 2011
By CJ The M&D sound puzzles make me not want to buy anything else from them. The materials are cheap and and worse, the audio has very basic problems that defeat the purpose of the puzzles. Many of the clips aren't even identifiable as the animal they are supposed to match, and in fact, THERE IS NO CORRELATION BETWEEN THE PUZZLE PIECE AND ITS DESIGNATED SPOT.

I was really disappointed by the quality of this puzzle. The concept is great - what a great way to reinforce what I'm teaching my 17-month-old about the sounds that animals make! Too bad it's so poorly executed. As other reviewers have mentioned, the animal sounds aren't always accurate. The zebra barks like a chihuahua, and the penguin sounds like a flock of seagulls. The worst feature is the inconsistency of the sounds working. Sometimes we can't get certain animals to sound, no matter how we put the piece in. Other times, the wrong piece will make a sound in a mismatching hole, or even your finger will make the sound. The other day, the puzzle sounds went off when nobody was even near it! I would also love it if the puzzle had an "off" button. If my daughter is playing with it for a long time, I don't necessarily want to hear the barking zebra over and over. The only way to turn off the sound would be to unscrew the battery compartment and take out the battery. I may do this, actually, because the sounds are so annoying. It is a sturdy puzzle and my daughter really enjoys matching the pieces. She also has the musical instrument puzzle and likes to work on them both at once.
Already broken!Nov 18, 2011
By S. Lin Bought this at Whole Foods just today-- thank goodness b/c returning it tomorrow. The sounds do not work with THREE animals, and with the other animals, the sounds SOMETIMES work, but you have to angle the puzzle peice a certain way. This is an awful puzzle. We also have the fire engine, as well as the farm animals, and those works well. Looks like many other reviewers are having similar problems!!
