Too many things wrong with this puzzleFeb 05, 2011
By Jacob's Mom My 1-1/2+ year old has several M & D puzzles (Jumbo Knob Wooden Farm Puzzle, Wooden Shape Sorting Clock & Shapes Chunky Puzzle to name a few) and we've been very happy with them. The pieces on these toys are sturdy, big and hold up really well. When I purchased this puzzle, I thought the quality would be just as good but there is nothing quality about this puzzle.
CONS: 1. The pieces are very thin (maybe about 4 millimeters) and seem fragile. I expected them to break as easily as a graham cracker. 2. The red plastic tic-tac sized knobs that are used to pick the pieces up are very small and short. 3. Some sounds go off when they are not supposed to and some don't go off when they are supposed to.
PROS: 1. The pieces are brightly colored and there is a nice variety of vehicles. 2. The concept of the toy is a great idea.
On top of all the cons, we returned this toy because two of the vehicles did not have sound. Normally, I would have just exchanged it but the quality of this toy is just not up to what I expect from M & D.
I called M & D customer service to tell them about the toy. Among the other cons, I also mentioned that the metal on the pieces did not line up with the metal on the puzzle. The rep told me that the puzzle was solar operated and the metal parts did not have to touch. If that is the case then why in the world would they make tic-tac sized plastic crappy knobs instead of the sturdy wooden knobs or just make the pieces thicker and easier to pick up?
This is a 2010 puzzle and it's a poor indication of the future of M & D products.

one of the most annoying toys yet.Aug 11, 2010

Do not buy this toy as a gift for some one unless you love them and it's a joke or you seriously hate them. We got this toy as a present and we officially give it our worst toy yet award. There is no on/off switch or volume control. It has light sensors to make the noises so you simply have to cover a sensor and it will make noise. So you don't have to get the correct piece in the correct place to get the noise reward. And if a noise is already playing it won't sense any other pieces until the noise is done. Finally and this is the worst part... it makes noises even if you aren't playing with it. Walk past it and block enough light and it will be set off. And our favorite if you turn the lights in the room on or off it will sound. Just great you get your kids asleep and you try and turn off the lights and the siren goes off loudly. Great idea for a toy, but poorly executed. We can't wait until the batteries die.

By JKLineberry I bought these for my Autistic nephew when he was 2 on the recommendation of an Occupational Therapist. Having no children of my own, I am not familiar with the different brands for children's toys. After asking around I was told that Melissa and Doug were well known for their safety and quality so I decided to go ahead even though $10 for a puzzle seemed high to me.
My nephew loves these. In addition to hearing the sounds and learning to mimic them, he is also learning tactile skills which is what his therapist has been focusing on. I like the quality of the puzzles. They are very well made and remind me of toys I had when I was a kid, when you could actually keep toys to pass on, not the disposable toys there are now.
As a special bonus, the sounds are perfect to get on my brothers nerves, hehehe. We are 13 years apart and I love teasing him about getting back at him now for his toddler days!

By C. Morse This is another great product from Melissa and Doug. I bought this for my son who is 22 months old and he LOVES that all the pieces make noises. The only thing that is weird is that the puzzle noises sometimes go off by themselves... creepy!!! Definitely a great buy.

Holds toddlers attentionAug 02, 2009

This puzzle entertains and captivates my toddler, and the sounds are not irritating in the way so many toys with sounds can be. I recommend this puzzle to anyone with a small child that likes vehicles and/or enoys puzzles.
