 Cute but not really sure how to use it!May 28, 2010

This sand set is really cute, but it's really hard to use! The cookie cutters are open on the top, so you have to shake the sand off around them without turning them over like a normal sand mold. It is nearly impossible to pick the cookies up (in the mold or out) with the spatula without messing them up. The bag also does not hold all of the pieces. It's a cute idea but not very practical for any young child -- or adult in my case!

I purchased the Sunny Patch cupcake, cookie and ice cream sets for a recent beach vacation. My 3 and 5 year old daughters loved them! Each set has some great playthings and some that didn't get much use.
The most used toys in the cookie set were the cookie sheet, sprinkle can and the plates. Our sand desserts were too crumbly to be picked up by the spatula and the cookie cutters didn't grab my daughters' attention. But that could be simply a matter of having too many choices amongst the three sets. I didn't bring the rolling pin, because I figured the spatula could be used to flatten sand if needed.
Overall, these toys are well made and durable and will be enjoyed by my girls for many years.

My 3-year-old daughter and I play with this set in our backyard all the time. We love it. The sand does need to be a little damp, but the spatula and cookie sheet make quick work of "cookies" or "pancakes" or whatever she decides to make. She does need a little help with scooping them up, but we smoosh the cookie cutter into the sand, move it to a plate, and then take off the cookie cutter.
I'm not sure about the purpose of the rolling pin, but my daughter thinks it's great. She rolls sand all over.
I think my daughter's favorite part of the whole set is the sprinkling can. She sprinkles sand on all of her goodies.

I couldn't believe the quality of this product when I received it. It's much larger than I expected and made out of a very sturdy plastic. The rolling pin is perfect for smoothing out a sand spot, or just for rolling over the "creations". The sprinkle container is great for sprinkling the cookies. The cookie cutters are adorable in that they are designed to make little faces on the cookies. The cookie sheet works great not only with this set, but with the M & D sand cupcake set as well. It also serves as a good sturdy base for a sand castle. My two older children like that there are "tic tac toe" lines underneath the cookie sheet. They press it in the sand and play tick tac toe. So glad I bought this!

My daughter just received this and the Melissa and Doug sand cupcake set for her 3rd birthday and we love it! She can pretend to bake and decorate the cookies. They are easy to do and turn out to actually look like the shapes they're supposed to look like.
