3High quality but not perfect (4.5 stars) updated to 3 starsJan 20, 2011
By Keira Reed
The bridge/tunnel itself is of a high quality, as usual with Melissa & Doug toys, the graphics, colors and size are great. The waterfall panel is a separate element, so you can either use it as a background for the largest opening (it securely attaches to it) or drop it and make an extra tunnel instead. Pictures on the back of all elements are the same as on the front, no blank or grey areas.

However, the incline of the bridge is too steep for light wooden trains (we have Brios, Thomas/Emily, and Imaginarium loco): you may need a longer straight track for a train not to fall off the tracks. Given that the assembled length is about 30", it may take some space.

It is our first "big" bridge, and it may be a common knowledge, but both its ends are female, which I didn't expect...

Overall, it looks absolutely great and can be used in many different layouts due to all the openings.

UPDATE: the two female ends really started bothering me to the point that we rarely use this bridge now (we have some adapters, but they are used elsewhere), and my son doesn't understand why his trains keep falling off the tracks when everything is so perfectly lined up -- this bridge is too steep for a normal sized layout. So, I decreased my initial rating to 3 stars and do not recommend buying this toy.

2Two problems with this setFeb 07, 2011
By S. Greer
I bought this set for my 2 1/2 year-old son to go with his Thomas Trains and other tracks. I thought I was getting a deal because it's so much cheaper than the Thomas and Friends sets but I returned it due to these two problems:

1. Both ends are female/open ended so that you can never connect the tracks. My son was very frustrated, screaming "need help" and crying because we couldn't close the tracks.
2. The hills were so steep that his wooden Thomas trains just flew off the tracks at the bottom of the mountain.

It's a nice-looking set, but just not that functional. I shelled out the big bucks and ordered him the Quarry Adventures Set. I'll review that when we get it.

5Great train addition!Sep 23, 2011
By Mom2boys
My son received this for his 3rd birthday, he LOVES it! The day he got it he played with it all day long which is a huge amount of time for a 3yo. It's been a few weeks now and he still plays with it all the time!

5High quality with a low price!May 24, 2012

This bridge tunnel is super cool. We just got it for our 3yo son for his birthday and he loves it. It is very well made, and fits his Thomas brand track perfectly. Yes, it has 2 female ends, therefore if you don't have an adapter then you will need one or two (which is simply a small piece of track with 2 male ends on it). It's well worth getting an adapter piece, because they come in handy often anyways. And yes it takes up a bit of space because it's a large bridge, and you need a long straightaway on each end of it to avoid the trains derailing on the turns. But that is common sense to me, so I expected that when I purchased this piece. Overall, my son loves it, it is great quality, and was a whole lot cheaper and better looking than any Thomas brand bridge, so I love it too!
