I saw this castle at a local store, for $20 higher than listed on Amazon. It looked so nice and sturdy I ordered the set for my sons 4th birthday. It came today, and I was able to open it up and get a good look at it. The castle , the dolls and the furniture are all very well built. I think this will stand up for a lot of play, (and my kids are rough). My 7 year old daughter played with it for a bit and she thought it was great. I had at first looked into getting the larger version by Melissa and Doug, but am glad I chose the smaller one. The price is much cheaper, ([...]), and it already comes with a set of people, and furniture. I like that my son will be able to carry this around with him, (which he couldn't do with the larger castle). And I like that it won't take up a ton of space. Last year we got my son the wooden toy garage by Alex toys, and it was not made nearly as well as this castle is. Oh, and you dont have to put anything together! I have seen some of the other brand larger castles up close that have the wooden slot construction, and they just don't look as stable to me. Anyway,this is a great bargain, and I highly recommend it.

so I bought this one for my son's major Christmas gift. We already have the fold and go barn, so I was right in assuming that it would be roughly the same size as that. It is a beautiful, sturdy little castle, and I am pleased with the detail and the size--small enough to carry, thanks to its design, but big enough to truly enjoy in imaginative play. Like another reviewer, I picked out several Papo figurines to go with the castle (spent more on them than the castle), and they are perfectly proportioned. If this becomes one of my son's favorites, I may eventually invest in a second fold and go castle so that each of the opposing sides can have its own fortress. Great price for a great product. Can't wait to see his face on Christmas day! (On a side-note, search a different website for a good selection of Papo figurines--the one I ordered from had a large selection; their figurines were at a discount, free shipping with a minimum order, free gift-wrapping, and a free figurine!)

This castle is great!!! We got it for our youngest...for his 2nd birthday. Our 8 year old and 6 year old really want a castle now.
We bought extra knights, horses skeletons and a ghost(PAPO brand)for this.
So much fun and folds up when finished playing.
So very happy we found this.

When I started my search for a castle for my grandson's third birthday I thought I'd find the old Fisher-Price castle that I once bought for my oldest grandson, years ago. Apparently, given the influence of today's entertainment choices, castle toys lean toward the dark side now. But the Melissa & Doug toys always come through. Good quality, simple, allowing for the child to exercise imagination and, most of all, not representative of evil. Thank you, Melissa & Doug. This old fogey still believes children should be sheltered as long as possible. Of all the things my grandson received for his birthday, this is the toy he plays with most. I didn't realize it comes with characters so I bought two sets - the Royal family and the Castle people. The castle people includes the jester and more horses so I recommend that but you can skip the Royal family unless you don't mind have two kings and queens. ;-)

So cute!
Bought this for my son after getting my daughter the pink castle, also made by Melissa & Doug.
This one came with four people and the pink one with only two.
No worries on either account, just curious as to the difference since both castles are identical save for color.
