Excellent tunnel system -- perfect with Melissa & Doug set!Oct 08, 2007
By RedNeckMom We bought this to go with the 130 piece Melissa & Doug Classic Wooden Railway Set we bought on Amazon as well. It's ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!! Best mountain we found out there, hands down. The base has two tunnels that cross, and the top lifts off to make it's own tunnel elsewhere on the track -- a very cool thing for a 2 year old to do all by himself!
We anchored our track and tunnel to a piece of pre-sanded plywood and it's just perfect for a 2 year old. It stays in place and can take the abuse and unrefined motor skills of a youngster with no problem.
The plastic is fairly thick and quite sturdy, and it looks much more realistic than other mountain sets we looked at. We are VERY, VERY pleased with this and if we had more room and a bigger train set, we'd buy another one!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
(will try to put up our own customer pictures of our setup -- see the product images at the top of the page)

tunnel is greatJan 25, 2008
By MM Dad purchased this for use with Melissa and Doug wooden train set. my 3-year old loves the elevated tunnel. make sure you use glue gun or something to secure elevated tracks. trains tend to get stuck on the bottom tunnel. it is hallow and little kids tend to put stuff in there.

Tallest MountainFeb 13, 2008

My four year old son loves Thomas the Train but I can't afford all the really neat accessories out there. We were looking for a mountain piece to add to his collection but one that wasn't too expensive for us. This worked perfectly. My son absolutely loves this and he calls it the "Tallest Mountain". I was really glad that we found it for him. It may not be a "Thomas" piece but it still works great. Besides that is was imaginations are for.

Every Real Train Set Needs a TunnelMar 30, 2009
By tmkreutzer Like so many others, I bought the Mountain Tunnel Accessory Set to go with my son's large Melissa and Doug train set. Working the mountain into the layout did take some thought while I was setting up, but I was eventually able to make it fit with a minimum of fuss. It is a high quality piece of color molded plastic that looks quite at home with a high quality wooden railway. No one, in my opinion, would think that it was out of place.
The downside is, as others have pointed out, the height of the tunnels. Some of our taller engines and cars will not go through. As a result, we often use the train set without the top part of the hill - which thanks to clever design work on the part of the manufacturer makes the set look like it is running over the top of the mountain.
Overall, I am pleased with the Mountain Tunnel Accessory Set and think it is a worthy addition to our railway set.

Good concept, but lower tunnel too smallJan 06, 2012

I like the idea of the mountain tunnel, and my son has enjoyed the upper portion of the mountain. However, the lower part is too small for a train engine to fit through on a track. It was really disappointing to discover the trains couldn't go through the bottom. What's the point of having the tunnel? Fortunately, my son is not as concerned about it and is still enjoying the mountain.
