5Lego Batman Returns!Jan 22, 2012
By Minute Kid
First off, I'm a big LEGO fan and I've been after discontinued LEGO Batman products like a maniac, so you can imagine my excitement when I opened the latest edition of "LEGO Magazine" to find a comic strip advertising the return of Lego Batman products. I went nuts! Apparently, a lot of other people did too, because it was almost impossible to find in a store, bout I was finally able to get my hands on one: the 6863 set with the batman and the joker.
The batwing and joker's helicopter have both been simplified from the discontinued set 7782LEGO Batman - The Batwing: The Joker's Aerial Assault, but still retain much of its awesomeness. The batwing has two flick-fire missiles, x-wing style rear wings, and a dropping missile. The joker's helicopter has FOUR flick-fire missiles and a joker-gas bomb made from a repainted star wars astromech.
The batman minifigure is like none ever made before. He has a double faced head, one with his usual charming grimness, and the other with a kind of "I've gotcha now" kinda grin. The torso piece is also unique. It's black, has a black emblem, and a canvas belt print. It has a back print.
The Joker has, to say the least, improved. His face and grin (both of them, he is also double-faced) are more malicious and evil. His torso is more detailed (his vest is checkered). The joker's henchman is exclusive to this set(so far), he has a mask face based on the masks from the thugs in the "Dark Knight" movie. He has a back print with joker's face detail on it, and a robber cap.
Overall, this set is woth the money and the wait, but if you can't get ahold of one after tying for two weeks, buy it online.

5Fun!Mar 05, 2012

I had a lot of fun helping my 5 year old put this set together this morning. I don't normally like that sort of thing, but the directions were fantastic and simple enough for him to do most of it. This was our first lego set and I'm super excited to buy more! The finished products included in this set are extremely cool looking and fun to play with.

4Thank goodness for the DC LegosApr 04, 2012

After a few years of acquiring a lot of Lego sets for my son, I was heartened to see the advent of something in addition to the usual "Star Wars" and "City" offerings. While my son will tear into any Lego and build away with focused abandon, he was excited to see the new superhero product line featuring Batman. I got this for him for his seventh birthday and he couldn't have been more thrilled when he peeled off the Lego wrapping paper (which I got from the Lego site). He had it all assembled within an hour or two. It comes with a Batman, a Joker, a Batplane, and a helicopter piloted by one of the Joker's henchmen. As with everything Lego, it was a bit pricey, but it was exactly what he wanted . . . along with the Batcave and the other two Batman sets (Batgirl, Two-Face Chase).

3Not the best value. But enjoyable for children and AFOL'sFeb 24, 2012

Lego Super Heroes Batwing Battle over Gotham City 6863 includes Black Suited Batman, Joker, and Joker's henchman, Helicopter, and the Batwing itself. I am a big fan of Tim Burton's Batman and I love the Batwing. I have mixed reviews concerning this playset. The Batwing itself seems one dimensional and flat. A little small. I think that's fine as it fits well into Lego City sets, but it also leaves more to be desired for most AFOL's. Children however, will love the swooshability of this set as the Batwing is easier for them to handle than the previous version. Another small nitpick I had was that Joker's flag didnt have the printed "BANG!" like the previously released Batwing set. This set is fantastic for children, but a little lacking for AFOL's (adult fans).

Its great that Lego rereleased these VHTF Batman sets however they could have put slightly more attention to detail. The original Batwing was a big hit, and still one of the coolest sets to display with its stand. This is one of the few instances where Lego has quite potentially released an inferior product compared to the previous version. As always though I am reminded that Lego is first and foremost, for the children. With that said, this is an excellent set for the young ones.

If you are a Burton fan and simply like the Batwing or 'wonderful toys' of Batman, this is a good set for you! If you want the minifigures I suggest checking out Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape.
