5Fun toy for everyoneAug 26, 2010

First review so here goes.

I started collecting bionicles when they first came out years ago then lost them all in a military move. Bummer, I know. This series (STARS) is a fantastic line up. I personally didn't like Skrall at first. Box art didn't do him ANY justice in my opinion. However, I decided to pick him up one day and was pretty impressed.

His build is simple and fun (as are all of the STARS). He has a wide footprint because of his arm blades. Really cool.
Parts are great for free building. He comes with a nice one piece (black) sword for a weapon, but also has 2 large blades that attach to his arms (decoration?). They are perfect for spare weapons for your other bionicles or whatever. He also utilizes an arm-like piece on his chest that extends out to give his head the angle you see in the picture. It's not resting on the standard head ball joint in the center. That one's unused in the build.
Skrall of course comes with a gold piece for the set (the "hilt" of the fire sword thats regularly silver).

Not sure, but I think the durability of the STARS series has improved over the older bionicles. I strongly believe they must have changed the composition of their plastics as I've bought some older bionicles and the sockets break much easier on those. I recently assembled an older (but unopened) 09 model and upon inserting the ball into the socket, the socket snapped! These STARS models seem to be more flexible. Maybe it was just my bad luck but compare it yourself.

**I've been assembling and re-assembling my current models. I've only noted a couple of splits on sockets but this may have been caused by my son, or myself if I wasn't paying attention to how I was seperating the joints.**

Overall this is a fun toy. I love the all black construction and extra weapons to use on my other models. My son is 3 and loves playing with them. There is a good chance a younger kid could break the sockets by torquing a limb the wrong way, but with a little supervision we have a ton of fun with them well before the recommended age of six.

I currently own the Red, White, and Black models. I'll be aquiring the others in time. My review is the same for all of these models. 5 STARS overall for the Bionicle STARS!

My 6 yo son loves Bionicles, so this was a welcome addition to his collection. Bionicles are easy to build, and are interchangeable with other Bionicle figures.

5Grandson Loves ItAug 20, 2011

My gson got 3 of these for his birthday and immediately sat down to construct them. He explained how he could mix this and that, etc. He smiled and thanked me multiple times. I personally didn't play with them but if he was that happy, that's enough for me. I'll be sure to tell my gparent friends about it.

5My son loves itJan 20, 2011

I bought this for my son for Christmas. He loves putting things together and the toy is durable plus the container holds the pieces well. I find it educational since he has to look at the directions and put it together (motor skills).

Lego has a winner here. My grandson can get very creative designing his own "good guys & bad guys. His battle strategy needs a little work but hey.
