5Lego's 2011 Creator HouseJan 11, 2011
By R. Ferguson
Lego's Creator line is one of my favorite because the sets avoid the use of really specialized pieces and, instead, focus on the creative use of more basic pieces. This is much closer to the way Lego sets were when I grew up. You can, of course, buy the bulk Lego sets, but I find those boxes provide too many 2x4 bricks and not enough of the one-stud wide bricks and other key elements (like angled roof pieces). Creator sets like this one provide a great mix of very useful pieces, often in colors that are hard to find. And because these come with directions for multiple builds, they encourage rebuilding and experimentation.

This year's first Creator house is a tidy little log cabin (there is another house, #5771 Hillside House, arriving later in the year, as well as a lighthouse island, #5770). This one is on the small side and it is not built on a baseplate but on a number of small plates (this represents a bit of shrinkage compared to years past). But it has a great color scheme, especially the dark roof tiles, and it has plenty of windows. There is a fireplace, one mini-figure, an ingenious kayak, a tree, and a fire pit with a spit. The top lifts off and the back side (of the A-model) opens up like a giant door; my kids have a lot of fun with this latter feature. The set has decent playability, though it really shines if you have other Lego people and things (vehicles, animals, droids, whatever) to expand the storyline. And since the cabin is unfurnished, your kids may want to make their own brick beds, brick tables and brick chairs.

Overall this is a very useful set with a lot of possibilities and a modest price tag. It makes a good gift because if you don't like one design, it is easily changed into something else.

Cheers

5Great Set for Introducing Legos to a ChildMar 15, 2011
By Michael "Network Engineer"
This set gives you a little more than 350 pieces for 30 bucks retail, which is a wonderful deal for Legos just in and of itself. However, as a set, it is a somewhat fast and easy build - my 7 year old daughter was able to build it on her own with very little assistance from me in about 2 hours. The cabin is very sturdy once built, for Legos of course. Because the cabin is formed like a house, it is a simple structure to put your mind around, and I think would be an excellent first set for a child that has never used Lego's before, but may be interested in them. My daughter loves this one, and I am very pleased that Lego has finally decided to include a Lego person in these sets, it greatly increases the playability factor.

5Great GiftMar 04, 2011
By Backlash
Bought this set as a gift for my 7 year old granddaughter who happens to be a Lego fanatic. She mentioned not having a Lego set for constructing a house, so it was a 'no-brainer' for me to pick this set. The Amazon price and reputation for quick delivery were also big factors, especially when the gift can be sent directly to a recipient that lives a thousand miles from my home. She loves the Lego Cabin set and already has her eye on more Lego home sets. All my grandchildren (and their parents) love playing with Legos together!

5Excellent Little HouseJan 23, 2011
By bordersj2
I love the Lego Creator line. Especially the creator houses. I for one have more recently re-discovered my love of Legos and appreciate more than before how creative they help you to be. The Creator series, the houses in particular, really take me back to when I could try to make houses and buildings out of the old 'Town' sets. This one is a wonderful little log cabin, complete with a river, grill and neatly colored blocks.

As time has gone by, Lego's gotten a bit more detailed with the creator series and houses and did a (good) thing by including a minifigure, which to me adds a bit more scale to the sets. It also opened the door to more intricate details for the interior and exterior of the sets, and this one isn't an exception. It's given a neat woodsy look with brown and yellow color schemes. The canoe is cute, and easy to build with other blocks, the spit is also a nice touch and the way the blocks are neatly layed out to give the appearance of a log cabin is also quite a nice touch. It's also relatively easy to build, so people of most ages (perhaps 8 and up) can enjoy. Maybe what I like most about the this and other creator sets, is that to me they seem to really fit the spirit of the older lego sets of the 80's and before when you could make many other creations with most of the pieces. This one has instructions for 3.

I'd recommend this one. The price is lower than any of the other creator house sets I've seen, and it's a welcome addition to the series. But like mos tlego sets, as time goes by I'd expect to see the price start to creep up.

5love it:)Sep 23, 2011

I thought this toy was EXELLENT! This toy is very fun to build and is VERY nice! It is strong and very educational. I like how you are able to build this set 3 different ways! So when you get bored with one style of the house you can build it 2 other ways:) I thought the little canoe was very cute too! If you put it in water it will float but not if you put too many things on one side of the canoe. Inside the house is a small fireplace. I really love the little chicken legs over the fire, very cute:) I thought this product was very nice!:)
