Frustrating directions and I'd question the age gradingDec 30, 2010
My son got this for his 8th birthday and was excited about it. The age grade says 7+ and this seems generous as the sparse directions and finicky assembly would drive 10 year old batty. First, the instructions. Each step is illustrated in a 3/4 drawing with a bare minimum of clues as to how to build it. The view is always the same, never a nice detailed shot rotated to best illustrate the step -which is critical with the nature of the K'nex pieces and their unique attachments.
My son got frustrated at Step 1 and after I asked him to try again, I sat down and worked on the kit with him. I don't mind building the kits together, in fact I like it a lot, the issue I have is that I'm guessing the chances of him building anything else with the kit, like he would with a Lego kit, is small. Speaking of small, these pieces are smaller than the other K'nex set he has (I think it was a Happy meal toy).
The saving grace for the set is that it has a few parts that can accommodate Lego pieces, this combined with the Lego block I super glued to the battery housing should extend the life of the toy, keeping it out of the bottom of the toy box for now. Right now the robot is walking past with 8 Lego Star Wars Mini Figs attached to it :)

too flimsy - would give zeo stars if it were an optionNov 12, 2011
don't waste your time or money...the leg supports aren't strong enough to hold it together once you turn the motor on...barely stay together even when it's not running...desperately needs to be redesigned...epic fail!!!

Fun to build, not much to play with.May 23, 2012
My 8year old son received this for his birthday and we immediately started construction. The pieces are very small and a bit difficult to put together but as the sides were symetrical I was able to construct the stage as per the instruction booklet and he copied that. Once it was all together and we turned it on, we were in fits of laughter at the mechanical movement of the robot, but all it does is "walk" forwards and backwards. If it's put together properly it is very sturdy but it's not much to play with and is just sitting on the shelf now collecting dust.
This is Scooter....NOT Slasher as listed..look at the box..Sep 07, 2013

These are great products. I love building them with my boys, but they will fall apart easily if using for battle. I am currently selling this item on Amazon, but the USBN number comes up as Slasher. This USBN# is actually Scooter. If you look at the box closely you will see it says 'Scooter'. I am unsure how to correct this mistake as I did not make the original listing.
Build and Play in Different WaysJun 26, 2013

Both of my children (4 and 7) liked this robot toy. The motor is fun so the robot actually moves by itself. They like to build it and then play with the finished product. It makes me happy to see them playing with the toy in many different ways. Usually something gets built and just collects dust on a shelf, but this toy has gotten more than its share of playtime!
