Putting it together wasn't the problem, KEEPING it together was!Dec 31, 2010
By Serendipity This was a lot of fun to put together for my nearly-7 yr old daughter and her dad. She had surprisingly little difficulty grasping the directions, but she did still need adult assistance for some of it. I think despite it's "7+" rating, if you think a 7 yr old kid's not going to need at least SOME help you are expecting too much from your kids.
And we got it together and sent the coaster 'round and it was the best thing that ever happened in my child's whole life... for about five circles.
And then the problems started.
First, the chain came loose. No big. We tightened it up one link.
Then, the track popped loose from its supports in a couple of places just from the stress of the car going around. We literally couldn't keep it together for more than a loop at a time. Which very quickly grew frustrating to my daughter and she stopped playing with this toy the same day she built it.
By the very next day, perhaps it sat overnight popped loose from its supports as it had so often the previous day, but for whatever reason, the tract had bent under its own weight and even when we did have everything connected properly the car would come 'round the final bend before the big hill and hit the support elbow (slowing its momentum tremendously) and if whacking itself on the support structure didn't stop it, hitting the next elbow *right* before the bottom of the big hill pretty effectively stopped it from connecting with the chain that would send it around again. It also knocked it loose, yet again.
Other major gripes:
-There's only ONE way to put this all together and have it be a coaster. Even the lamest race tracts or train sets can be either a loop or a figure eight.
-There are absolutely no extra pieces. If a tiny connector gets lost (because, oh, say IT CONSTANTLY COMES APART UNDER ITS OWN MOMENTUM) the whole thing is a giant, fancy paper weight if you own no other k'nex.
-The problem of it coming apart when you so much as sneeze at the stupid thing could so easily be fixed with just a little bit of structural reinforcement in the weaker areas, but you can't do that at all because, oh yeah, no extra parts.
I would not recommend this set to anyone wants to not waste their money or buy a toy a kid will actually be able to play with or use for more than an hour.
I will most likely try to acquire additional k'nex and solve our dilemma, but there just should not be one in the first place. It really feel like it's throwing good money after bad in a lot of ways, though.
I sincerely hope the more expensive roller coaster sets are better than this one....

By rebecca No extra pieces for chain. That lifts the car up track. So if one get broken or lost. Can't use. It also needs batteries. But it is pretty cool. I had to do it mostly alone. My 6 year old who is smart and creative it was just a touch too complicated for him. It does say 7 but that usually is not a problem with toys we do together.

Better than expectedFeb 15, 2012
By M. S. Radowski I read the reviews on this roller coaster, but decided to buy it for the pieces(We have another coaster from K'nex that is larger, but could use the additional track to modify it.) I was somewhat disappointed by the fact that many of the pieces that come with this coaster are much smaller than normal K'nex, and then I started thinking about the reviews and assumed (the dreaded word) that my experience would fall in-line with that of others. I was pleasantly surprised though. The coaster is small and the provided car zips around the corners like there is no tomorrow. The total trip time is about 7 seconds, but the little car consistently navigates the dives, twists and turns without issue. I think a lot of it has to do with how well the pieces are secured. There are two 'snap points' when putting the small pieces together (essentially, the track is keyed to go one way only). If the track is snapped together so that all the piece are the same way, then the connectors that hold the track to the structure will hold together well. If you don't pay attention to which way you put the track, then the connectors will pop off, and the run will fail.
If you look at the track, one end will have a triangular connector like this: __|\ The car should ride on top, and the connectors on the bottom in the above orientation. If you put some tracks the opposite way (like this ==|/) then the connectors will not snap on correctly and the track won't sit on the structure well.
Hope that helps!

My Grandson Loves ItJun 09, 2011
By Elizabeth L. Moore Got this toy for my grandson for Christmas, he plays with it alot and loves it, the only problem with it is that if the chain is not lined up perfectly it will not work right. So you got to keep checking it.

No extra parts & Track does not stayApr 11, 2011
By LA We put the whole structure together no problem. Then we added the track and the problems started. The connectors are not strong enough to to hold the track together. The stress of twisting the track for the loop pulls the track off the connectors the the whole thing doesn't work. The kit has no extra parts to solve the problem. It was fun putting it together, but disappointing when the roller coaster did not work.
