Average Overall...Just wish it did more!Oct 04, 2010

PROS:
-Nice John Deere Appearance.
-No batteries required EVER!
-Kids love to pull the starter cord!
CONS:
-Does not do much...No Lights or extra features!
-If your child is to young to pull starter cord...The trimmer will not do anything!
This toy has only recently been added to my son's toy collection. When it arrived, it looks pretty cool! It is nicely branded out in traditional John Deere green and yellow, with the John Deere logo and even a model number.
In order to use the trimmer, you have to pull the starter cord...Which kids seem to love!...And adults will love this as well because pulling the starter cord winds the mechanism to turn the bottom part of the trimmer...so NO BATTERIES REQUIRED! Pressing the button on the handle will turn the bottom of the trimmer and there are little beads inside of there will spin and make some noise.
For me this is just an average buy. For almost $20, I just wish it did more...Made motor sounds, maybe flashing lights, etc. It seems like all the money is spent paying for the John Deere brand.

My son really enjoyed this product when he first got it.
I think he got tired of pulling the cord to get it to work
after a while. But all in all it was a good purchase.

Very lightweightAug 15, 2010
By hera This is surprisingly light which is great for young kids. It is also shorter than the Home Depot and Craftsman yard equipment toys. I love the pull start because it provides something for you to do instead of just pushing a button, makes it more realistic and is the reason why batteries are not needed. One thing that I didn't realize is that you have to pull the pull start several times to wind it up and then push the button to make it go. My son is obsessed with yard working equipment so he loves it.

Kids LOVE weed whacking like Daddy...all without gas or batteries!Jun 14, 2011

Our boys (and childcare kids) love this toy and play with it at least once a day. They love the whirling and sounds, we love the fact that there aren't any batteries, so they actually have to use their muscles (yippee for the fine muscle improvement) to make it work. Of course, the John Deere colors and logo make it even more exciting for them. It was kinda pricey for a toy, but it is EXTREMELY durable (it's been dropped and thrown by kids and still looks like new after more than a year) and a must-have for any child who likes to help his/her parents around the yard.

DisappointedAug 06, 2009

I would like to have known that you need to pull the cord to make the weedeater work. The sound it makes when you pull the cord is good but there is almost no sound when you push the button to make the weedeater go around. Most of the time it doesn't even make the little "grass" move inside the weedeater. I Wish I had know in advance that you must pull the cord to make the weedeater work and that each pull would result in about 5 seconds,or less, of action for the weedeater. That is alot of pulling for so little in return, even for a little guy.
