Best, Most Accurate Toy Camera & Awesome Value!May 04, 2012

I do not live on a farm and struggled with the concept of buying a John Deere branded product -- especially a bright pink one -- but I am *so* glad I did.
Before I got this for her in the 2011 holiday season, my now 20-month-old daughter loved trying to play with my expensive adult camera equipment. I wanted to buy her an age-appropriate toy camera that behaved like an actual camera and spent substantial time researching them; due to the number of features & greatest similarity to real cameras, this one came out on top.
Features include a large faux "LCD" viewing screen with inset screens (like tv within tv but multiple ones that are part of each main image) showing well over 15 images in total while triggering 16 related sounds and songs (including an adorable one with a female voice singing & subliminally suggesting "I want to be outside") that can easily be moved from picture to picture with small child or big adult hands, an adjustable lens with audible clicks on each tiny turn, a huge viewfinder with multiple color "filters" that can easily be changed with child or adult hands, and a working "flash" that lights up and makes an accurate flash noise.
Every piece of this camera is placed exactly where it should be on a real camera and/or has the effect of working exactly how it would on a real camera with the added bonus of so many kid-friendly goodies. My daughter loves it & asks for her camera regularly, especially when I'm using any of mine. I've caught several adults playing with this John Deere camera (& have enjoyed playing with it myself)!
On a practical level, I love that the batteries have only needed changing once despite very regular use & its strong durability around a toddler that loves throwing (including onto hard surfaces & at walls), biting, & generally being rough on her toys. That said, the camera is helping teach her to respect electronic equipment & treat them with care. Occasionally it doesn't move onto the next picture when the lever for the "LCD" screen is pushed, but this has only been a minor annoyance for us & does not happen often enough to remove a star.
I also love that this camera will grow with my child until she's ready for a kid camera that takes actual pictures or a cheap adult camera. I think that's more likely to be around age 3 or 4 for her than age 6 but of course, every child is different. I expect this camera will last at least that long & will probably be handed down to another child.
Given that the John Deere camera is cheaper than most if not all of its competitors here on Amazon, it is worth every bit of these five stars. Amazing value & longevity for such an inexpensive product.
By the way, my daughter still tries to play with my cameras from time to time -- but she now understands the concept and mostly tries (sometimes successfully) to take pictures with it. I don't think she would have learned so quickly & deeply with any other toy camera.
