5Great baby toy for 1-year-oldFeb 17, 2010
By Dina
I was a little dubious about this toy, because it didn't look very "cute" compared to a lot of my daughter's other Christmas gifts, but wow, what a hit! It's turned out to be one of her favorite toys, one she plays with every single day. She loves experimenting with magnetism as she takes the pieces apart and puts them back together, feeling how some repel and some attract. She can easily stack them herself, though it's tricky for her to stack 'regular' blocks yet, and she loves rolling the balls around. The pieces are all waterproof and all but the animals float (the animals float when a half-circle is placed inside them), so they make great bath toys, and no water can get inside, so they can't grow mold like so many bath toys can. And as if that wasn't enough, they're dishwasher-safe! Even the older kids and adults enjoy playing with them with the baby.

One thing to note: the colors of the animal pieces vary, so don't be surprised if, say, your sea turtle is yellow, like ours, rather than green, like the one on the box. And though I imagine they always send at least one of each animal, we have 2 starfish rather than the 2 crabs pictured. Our baby couldn't care less, of course, but her older brother was a bit concerned that it didn't match the photo.

They're a bit on the pricey side, but my daughter loves them so much, I'm tempted to get more of them.

5The perfect toy for toddlers!Mar 06, 2011
By Chris "Mom of Two Busy Kids"
I cannot say enough good things about Geomag GBaby. This is the only toy we bought for my daughter's first birthday, and she plays with it constantly. She squeals and squirms to get down when we enter her room and then she heads right for the box, which she opens and sits down in to begin playing. Her older brother (4 1/2) thinks they're very cool as well, and there are enough pieces that they can play together (usually). The sea shapes add a lot to the appeal as well as the challenge. I do not like toys with lots of buttons that call themselves "learning toys" - this set is a true learning toy. I bought these because she's always trying to put her big brother's duplos together but obviously can't. What I like:

* 1-year-old can easily build with them
* Figuring out that they sometimes repel and sometimes attract is just enough challenge for a toddler
* Colorful and visually appealing
* Rattling noise adds more sensory stimulation
* Some pieces work better with others, but each piece does work with all the others
* Rubber sea creatures add different texture as well as challenge and interest
* Stiumlates curiosity and problem-solving
* Made in Switzerland!! I didn't even know it wasn't made in China until it arrived.

I have not found many interactive non-button toys specifically designed for toddlers, and this is one.

4FINALLY some cool magnetic toys for my little Baby Man.Feb 19, 2012
By RACHEL CRUTCHER "RACHEL"
PROS
WELL MADE -I read the review about metal shavings coming out of the blocks but chanced it anyway and I am happy to report that my sons blocks have no such issue.

INDESTRUCTIBLE

NOT Made in China

EDUCATIONAL

ENGAGING- My son is best able to focus playing with these when seated in his high chair. He usually plays with them much longer than I expect him to and is continually making new discoveries.

CONS
OVERPRICED

FILLER (SEA ANIMALS) - The "sea animals" are LAME and prevent the blocks from being used to construct a wide variety of configurations. I put them in a seperate activity box and he does like to gnaw on them when teething sometimes.

HERE IS MY JOURNEY THROUGH MAGNETIC TOY SHOPPING FOR ANYONE INCLINED TO READ IT:

First I bought the barn magnet toy from leap frog LeapFrog Fridge Farm Magnetic Animal Set which I think is just too annoying and doesn't give him the opportunity to really be creative. Also the magnets do not stay attracted to our fridge well and i dont enjoy stepping on them in the early morning hours. Not a total dud but not really special at all

Second I bought the Melissa and Doug Magnets Melissa & Doug 20 Animal Magnets in a Box and it was a WASTE of money. They are cheaply constructed and my son was able to bite one of the animals (and magnets) apart almost instantly. I wanted to get him something magnetic he could play with and enjoy as well as safely play with.

Third I bought this toy. I read the review about using these in the bath tub and liked the idea. We already have a LOT of favorite bath toys right now that we are enjoying so I opted to introduce this activity/ toy to my 16 month old while he was seated in the high chair. The sea animals are pointless and in fact seem to detract from the toy and from the concept of attraction vs opposition and magnetic forces etc etc. So I quickly removed the sea animals and then my sons interest just blossomed. He made balls and rolled them on the tray and laughed and long logs and rolled those, he played with the blocks incredibly focused and engaged for nearly 40 minutes!!! Even rejected my attention or food even though I know he was hungry. I am glad I went ahead and bought these they are really well constructed and although I think a bit cost prohibitive they were worth the money.

I wish I had been able to just by 19 actual blocks instead of the 14 blocks and 5 sea life characters that we have very little use for. Although he does occasionally like to chew on them. Or alternatively I wish I could buy 14 blocks at the adjusted price after the sea creatures have been removed. These toys are expensive and so I expect them not to have a bunch of "filler" items. It reminds me of how (when i was a little girl) barbie always had shoes that didn't fit and a stupid little hair brush or comb no one ever used.

I have recently jumped on the bandwagon of not wanting to buy my son items manufactured in China. I have never liked China manufactured items simply bc I do not enjoy supporting a government that is really not respectful to mankind or animal kind for that matter. But that lack of respect manifests itself into dangerous toys that have been toxic and harmful to children due to lax standards and neglectful enforcement of safety regulations.

So far I am really happy with the Tolo toysTolo Toys Puzzle Ball I have purchased as well as Schylling ABC Humming Topproducts and WOW ToysWow Dudley Dump Truck is my new favorite company. I know this doesn't relate to the actual review but I would really have appreciated some tips from a full time shopper like myself about two months ago so hopefully it will help some other parents out there. And if you have any questions feel free to ask me I am stumbling through Motherhood just like everyone else but I gladly will help as I can :)

4Good quality toyFeb 28, 2011
By H. Sander
This is a good quality toy and my son enjoys sticking the magnets together. He was initially really excited by these, but now looks at them only occasionally. Watch out for your laptops with these around. The magnets are definitely a bit dangerous in this respect!

5Speculation turns to AWESOMEFeb 03, 2011
By C. Jones
At first glance this toy is a little weird, but at least they are nicely sealed pieces that float and can be easily disinfected. Second glance, they are pure genius! Not only does it teach magnets, which our 1 year old might not understand yet, but it allows the imagination to flourish just because it's a fun building set he can play with anywhere and use in so many ways. This has turned out to be a foundation baby toy piece that he can use now & surely use for a number of years. Who doesn't want to buy a baby toy that they can grow up with?! Thank goodness Europeans know how to design a toy.
