Good idea, needs improvementJun 08, 2010

I am always happy to find eco-friendly toys made with non-toxic materials for my children to play with. We already have quite a collection of Plan and Sprig toys (which I LOVE) and I was super excited to see this toy, which sort of mimics those commercial plastic toy dollhouses available at most stores. My daughter loves that kind of thing and I was happy to feed her need for princess fairytale stuff without exposing her to the pthalates, chlorine and other toxic goodness that comes along with the more popular mainstream toys.

I am happy to report that the most of the colors are vivid and the Fairy Tale Dollhouse is fun for her to play with. Her little friends (all in the 4-to-6 age range) also enjoy playing with this when they come over. My complaint is that the wood is not well sanded in many places and the paint on the removable roof pieces came badly faded in a few (large) spots.

Additionally, the roof pieces come off a bit *too* easily and don't stay in place well. I also wish Maxim would include more functional pieces. While the little standing heart cutouts are cute, they don't really add much value.

It's a good start. I just think that Maxim should take a cue from Plan toys and spend just a bit more time sanding their edges smooth and thinking about pieces that really add value (and fun) to a playset.
