What is with all of the negative reviews? I can understand folks having an issue with receiving the wrong character cup, or having problems with spillage because they didn't follow the instructions. But honestly, this is a GREAT sippy cup - SUCH a better investment than Playtex or Munchkin straw cups (those have straws that are too little and flimsy, like a regular straw; and the straw always gets stuck in those flip lids).
My son has used this type of cup since he was about 18 months. The straw is thick and wide, and very simple to put the two parts together and insert into the lid. I never have to worry about juice spilling, or the straw breaking because of him playing with his cup. For some reason he always drinks by tilting the cup (ANY cup he uses) back, and this Learning Curve cup still doesn't leak! Perfect size for kids cup holders in the car, stroller, and carseat. The plastic of the cup is thick, but not truly 'insulated' as other cups are. The flip lid is oversized for chubby fingers; unlike the other brands, he has no problem opening and closing the cup. As for other reviewers saying that it's unfair that Learning Curve doesn't offer replacement straws, Playtex doesn't offer replacements either. Obviously, that's a bad practice for the industry.
If your toddler needs help learning to drink from a straw, or if you just want a travel or daycare cup with some extra protection from germs, definitely buy this one!
Edit, July 5 2011:
I just received an order of 2 of the Mickey Mouse straw cups, both completely sealed, but one had a pink/red colored straw either from a manufacturing defect or from bleeding of the red lid (I'm leaning towards a defect because either the bottom tube or the blue cup itself were stained). Still love these cups, but I'm disappointed in quality control. Waiting on an email response from The First Years. Great cups, but buyer beware!

I have 2 of these cups and my 2 year old twin boys love them. You have to make sure that everytime you take the lid off to refil you push in the straw and all the parts so it won't leak. I do NOT have a problem with this cup leaking if I do that, and it only takes a second. The straw is thick but my little ones love it. It can also slide to close. I think I read another complaint that the piece of plastic that closes the straw part broke off, I actaully had to take mine off to get the straw unstuck one time and it just clips back on. Very well made. I wouldn't let your child throw them too much but if they do (which you know they will) you might want to unscrew the lid and make sure everything is pushed in well. Hope I helped.

I just recieved this, havent used it yet but the product specifications says there are 2 items which meant to me there were two cups. I do not want to return it but i didnt pay 6 dollars for just one cup. Ill be returning it if i cant get the second one. Im only slighty happy with this purchase.

My now 2.5 year old daughter has been using this line of cups since she was under a year. After trying out several sippy cups with little luck (they "leak proof-ness" makes so many of them hard to drink from. Not to mention many of them are annoying to clean) I skipped to a straw cup. I've tried many. I don't like ones that are too hard to use (e.g., ones that you have to suck too hard or bite and suck at the same time etc) or ones that are too much hassle to clean. I like these cups mainly because:
1) they're easy to clean vs. other straw cups I've bought. A lot of the other cups have the thin round straws. I find these more of a hassle to clean well. This cup on the other hand has a fairly wide opening so you can run water through it for a quick rinse or use a smaller bottle brush to give it a better wash.
2) they're easy for a baby to use and decently leak-proof. I've had these leak on us while on the go but not terribly enough that I'm ready to toss them. The pros outweight the cons in our case. I'd rather the straw be fairly easy to use and easy to clean than finding a cup that is 100% leak proof. To make them leak-proof you're supposed to push in the little seal/valve. When my daughter first started using the cup we'd leave this valve open which made it easier to get the liquid. Once she mastered the straw or when we were outside of the house I could use the valve and the cup would become leak proof. I should note that at the younger ages I wouldn't really leave my daughter unattended much to use the cup so I could catch the cup if it was going to fall etc.
3) They fit in your bag cup holder. They don't have protruding handles or aren't overly large. Found they fit just right in bags fitted with a pocket for drinks.
