5A Classic Toy !Jul 02, 1999

I was so happy to find that the Etch a Sketch is still available. I thought it was a toy of the past. I bought one for my coffee table at home and everyone that comes over plays with it and reminisces. It's a great toy for all ages - especially for creatives.

5Possibly spotty quality but company will make good on itApr 11, 2011

Unfortunately, they've changed enough of this classic toy that it is not what it used to be. Lines are not dark enough to see very well, and those that do show up do not erase.

C'mon Ohio Art, how dumb do you think we all are? Put out a quality product, on par with the old days, and your sales will be even better. Better yet, you won't be producing plastic junk that goes straight to the landfill.

UPDATE: I contacted the company and, amazingly, they stood behind the product and shipped me two new ones - to the other side of the planet. The new ones work much better. They also took the numbers off the back of the units and got their engineers involved to figure out what had gone wrong with the manufacture of my two... pretty impressive. Three cheers Ohio Art!

1Doesn't Work :(Dec 23, 2011

I had the same problem with this toy as most others. The lines dont's really erase. I also found the lines to be too thin and faint for a 4 - 6 yr old. I'll be giving mine away and looking for another make for the same toy.

5My Kids Love Etch a SketchJan 02, 2000

I bought the Etch a Sketch for my 11 year old. It seems I should have bought 3 more because my other children love it. They seem to be getting better at making rounded lines with the practice they are getting. They love it!

1Not How I RememberedMar 02, 2010

Don't get me wrong, Etch A Sketch is an awesome toy. As long as the buyer receives a product that works properly. I'm not sure if the quality of the product (we received) has changed since I was a kid (the answer - probably yes), but immediately after opening the toy for my 5 year old (he was celebrating his bday), the thing just didn't perform well. We soon realized that the lines didn't erase from the screen. After shaking the toy like madpeople, we just couldn't get the images to really disappear. Now, with my toy in the 80s, the images could be easily erased with minor, controlled shaking.

Which is a shame, since both my kids were looking forward to a really cool toy. A toy that I talked and hyped up quite a bit, reflecting on my own youth where I'd spend hours creating cool images and designs on my Etch A Sketch. I don't think we've quite given up on this toy - we may look for another vendor or store to purchase from in the future.
