1DO NOT BUY THIS TOYJan 12, 2011
By Bill Kearney "wkearney99"
I'm all for toys with some challenges. But this one is just defective. First off the packaging indicates you can 'launch' the trains. Nothing short of a hammer slammed into the button would even come close to 'launching' the trains. It barely moves when a child presses it. It hardly made it to the sheds when I gave it a very hard smack.

Secondly, the turntable depends upon moving the track around. That's the turquoise blue segment in the picture shown. Trouble is that part has a very weak connection to the base. Even as an adult you have to carefully press the track in toward the sheds, lift it slightly, move it and firmly hold the sheds in place. Otherwise the launcher segment pulls away from the base (and it rather tedious to reconnect). This is next to impossible for a child. The sheds have latching doors that can only be opened when you turn the track around. So if the child wants to open one of they'd have to slide the track around, more frustration.

Then there's the amount of track, come on, barely a 12" circle? That's it? That's ridiculous.

A simple shed setup, a la the Thomas Tidmouth Sheds set would be a much more welcome product.

Save yourself the stress of having your child get almost instantly frustrated trying to do even the simplest things with it. I strongly recommend you DO NOT BUY this toy.

2buy this toy.... for a child you DON'T like.Oct 25, 2011
By little dictators "whining about children since 2007"
good lord, what a piece of garbage. my chuggington-obsessed 4 year old son BEGGED for a chuggington track, and this was his "reward" for good behavior. sadly, it's more like a punishment.

while the chuggington die-cast trains are durable and well made, i can't say either quality holds true for the track. the "launch" requires a child (or adult) to smash down the button with a power only possessed by andre the giant in order to get any momentum at all. the plastic track - all four pieces of it - comes to a circle roughly the size of a dinner plate. as other reviewers said, the small plastic detail pieces are easily knocked off. repeatedly. requiring parental fixes. repeatedly. all day long. forever.

lastly, the awful clicking noise the roundhouse makes when you turn the launcher, close the shed doors, open the shed doors or even look at the thing the wrong way sound exactly like a toy that's going to break any second. click! click! i'm going to fall apart at any minute! preferably when you're in the middle of cooking dinner and trying to keep your child occupied!

save your $20; buy 3 or 4 of the trains instead and let your tot drive them around on the floor. you'll all be happier.

3Cute Idea, doesn't launch...Jan 03, 2011
By Kimberly Martins
My son loves chuggington so i thought this would be a great toy. The only thing is the launcher isn't good at all, even for an adult to do it. You have to really bang the thing to launch far and who wants to teach that to their child! And the turnabout only turns by moving the launcher around - which makes sense, just not for the real young ones.

1Junk!Nov 25, 2011
By Jennifer Gordon
This and all the chuggington tracks sets I've purchased are junk. This one in particular doesn't work because a child (nor I for that matter) can press the button hard enough to push the train out. This is done with brute force, not batteries. The batteries are for the sounds only. Do not buy this toy or any other track sets. What a disappointment. My son loves the die cast trains. Too bad they can't make a decent playset to go with it.

4you need to know your kid before you buy this....Nov 20, 2011
By meredith
so my son loves chuggington, and his aunt loves to spoil him, so my son got it for no reason this past summer (2011) from target. we paid $20 and it was worth every penny. my son just likes to open and close doors, but he never bothered with the blue launcher. he would slam the trains into the door so they would open. it works for him.
i also put up the little pieces that go on the back, after a week of almost stepping on them and breaking my neck :).
the amount of track it comes with is just sad. i bought an extention set and its 'better' but you cant ever have all 4 track slots in use. i am very good at spatial recognition and i cannot get it to work. even after my son is in bed and i have messed with it, i just couldnt get it to work. we are buying another track set, the track switch and signal set, for him for chirstmas so i hope this gives us more options. my husband is very annoyed with the track situation.
if you have a chuggington fan then i would get it, but dont expect them to play with it the way intended. too many design flaws for that. but it can keep them occupied for several hours :).

Edit- 4/18/12 we bought the track switch set and have figured out quite a few cool combos. btween the pieces it comes with, the switch set, the track expantion, and the action chugger set, my livingroom will never be the same. you really need to mess with it when little ones are not around to find a few ways to do it, but i can say it can be done!
