Very cuteMar 11, 2012
By L and G's mom Bought these for my three year old. She loves all the calico critters. This mouse family is very cute. You won't be dissapointed.
Small, but lots to love!Apr 13, 2011
By Country Mom I had to chuckle when I opened the box, since our little boy mouse had two right arms! I must point out that we have been playing with, and collecting, these for close to 20 years, and this is the FIRST time I've seen anything like that. Amazon is wonderful about returns and replacements, a new set has already been shipped.
There is really nothing like these on the market. Other animal playsets, that I've seen, just look cheap and disposable. The detail in the families, as well as in the furniture and accessories, is simply amazing. They are also designed to hold many of the accessories (teacups, magazines, cooking utensils). The limbs and head are tight at first but, as with any toy, do loosen up with use.
I believe the price may be a bit higher because of the quality of the clothing, it varies with each little family, is simple but detailed and absolutely adorable! I do wish they made more individual clothing sets available, so we would not be forced to purchase the entire animal or set just to get new, or seasonal, clothing items.
Our menagerie has expanded throughout the years to include mice, bears, rabbits, otters, penguins, cats, dogs, ducks, and the list is growing. Just choose your favorite animal - they probably have it! The Milky Mouse family was purchased to replace an original, well loved and worn, mouse family and they are already brightening up the dollhouse for Spring, with their cheery colors and sweet little faces.
A previous reviewer has an excellent point; these could be made more "green" or from recycled materials. They are irresistible to the kids, as well as to Mom. They have become a tradition in our home!

cute little mouse familySep 25, 2010
By Auntie M I purchased this toy to use as a prop for my preschool class. The photo of the "Momma Mouse" showed her holding a book, which would have been perfect for my use. She does not come with any book, which was a bit disappointing. Overall, it is a cute little mouse family, The characters can sit down, and their arms move. Their clothes are changeable .Since the mice are white, they will get dirty quickly, but are very cute overall.

Super-Adorable, Fun, But Totally Overpriced for PVC Made in ChinaJan 13, 2011
By goonius My three year old daughter received this little mouse family from a relative for Christmas.
And I'll confess, every time we went to our local boutique-y toy store, I pondered these little animals with mixed emotions. There's no denying their cuteness which borders on being saccharine, but walks that fine line carefully enough so as to still appeal to virtually anyone -- including myself in an odd sort of way.
I've always balked at the price (I'd assumed our local store had jacked it up 50-odd%, but no - their pricing is spot-on). I continue to marvel at how PVC (a fairly nasty, toxic-from-inception-to-disposal, chemical-leaching, cheap plastic) manufactured in the third world could have attached to it such a fancy price. I mean, I could totally see if they'd pioneered locating an uber-safe replacement plastic for PVC like Boon's Odd Ducks, or if they were recycling something -- *anything* like Green Toys, or making grand philanthropic social gestures in the third world like Plan Toys. But this company seems to be doing none of the above (though the PVC is supposedly phthalate free, though no information seems t exist on whther this translates to 'safe' -- and are they actually monitoring this, I wonder?). They're making toys from cheap materials that cost pennies and selling them at an insane mark-up. It's actually pretty ingenious.
As for the toys themselves, they are pretty much exactly what they appear to be. Semi-hard PVC bodies, with white nylon fuzz fused onto them, pink fuzz on the ears and nose (the fuzz does pick up lots of lint, and doesn't weather long-term play well as our local toy-store's display animals can attest). The heads and limbs - arms and legs - do move, but not easily. My daughter seems oblivious to this - she never moves their limbs. The clothing can be removed, and most outfits attach with velcro. The little boy mouse's outfit, oddly, has no velcro, but stays on nonetheless. Most of the outfits are a single piece, except for the daddy mouse who has both a shirt and overalls. All of the mice have bendy white tails in the back and black bead-like eyes. Their expressions are pleasant and endearing.
Despite any caveats mom may have about PVC toys, they are a permanent fixture because they are loved - fiercely. They are toted about the house and on car rides, gently fed and tucked into little beds, snuggled, the whole bit. Truth be known, I think I'd have easily been crazy about them as a young child too, long before the days where toxic toys were a source of maternal angst.
