Excellent ElephantsApr 03, 2011

The Ellwoods Elephant Family is awesome! If you are already familiar with Calico Critters, you know the basics - light gray flocked elephants - Mom, Dad, brother and sister. The parents are about 3 1/4 inches high, and the kids are about 2 1/2 inches. The elephants all have gray bodies, pink ears and trunk ends, and shiny black eyes. None of them have tails, and all the arms and legs move. The family also is wearing removeable clothes. Mom is wearing a long pink calico dress with a tie on apron (the apron is cute, but hard to tie and ours was lost. The good news is that Mom's dress is still very sweet without it). This elephant Dad is a little more stylish than most of the Critter Dads - he is sporting a green velveteen vest, yellow shirt with red bowtie and green pants. Both parents clothes have velcro closures. Sister has a red calico dress, that has a velcro closure and a ribbon that ties around her neck. (Maybe not the best choice for younger kids who like to take off the clothes - those tiny ribbons are very hard to tie with adult fingers). Brother has cute green gingham overalls with red straps and buttons. They just slide up and have no fasteners.
I really like the Elephant family. They are extremely cute, and their gray color is dark enough to withstand some dirt. We have had a rabbit family that is the same color for many years, and they still look great - I think the elephants will hold up equally well. My 8 and 11 year old girls love playing with Calico Critters. They set up a bunch of dollhouses to make a town, and let their imaginations run wild. I always love to see them so involved in pretend play. My family has had Critters for many years now, and my daughters keep cycling back to playing with and collecting them. They have definitely earned their space on the toy shelf!
Bottom Line - your kids will love playing with Calico Critters families, and the Ellwood Elephants will be one of their favorite families!

This family is very adorable. They remind me of Babar (especially the dad) and his family. I keep thinking that in the Cloverleaf Manor they would look just like Babar in those grand French homes when he went to live in the city.
However, I bought these to use in my work as a therapist with kids, whose families that sometimes come from more modest backgrounds, so I will be sticking to the Deluxe Village house for these little guys. I think it looks more like an american home and may be easier to relate to. I can't wait to get sets, decorate their home, and give Calico Critters as gifts to the youngsters I know!

I began buying the Calico Critters range of toys for my seven-year-old so that she would have something other than dolls to play with in her dollhouse. These toys are so well-made that they have stood up to much use and play over the last several years. My daughter never gets tired of these little critters - they are detailed, adorable, come with cute little outfits (which can be taken off, and switched with other critters), and are quite durable too.
This elephant family comes with mom, dad, brother, and sister, and there's also a set of twin baby elephants that are sold separately. We have also collected the cat family, the hopscotch bunny family, honey bear family, Norwood Mouse family, and Squirrel family. It is so much fun to see my daughter create fun plot lines with all the different critters. The furniture sets are also well-made and beautiful, although there are many tiny accessories that can be easily misplaced or lost (not recommended for the under-fives). I can't wait to add more to my daughter's collection!

So glad Calico Critters is making a comeback. Loved them for my daughter when she was young and glad a new generation is enjoying them.

I bought a bunch of these toys for my daughter for Christmas. She totally loves them. They are very cute and you can buy so many different houses and accessories. She plays with them for hours.
