A Great Product Made Better!Dec 27, 2011
By R. Voorhees Horizon made the MCp x better by making a few changes to an already tried and true collective pitch heli. First off, they have improved the 3 in 1 controller by creating a digital version which offers more precise self correction resulting in a more stable hovering, both regular and inverted. It's also slightly more responsive resulting in better flips, rolls, and funnels. They also beefed up the tail rotor for better piro rate as well as moving from a 25c battery to a 30c battery. This gives you slightly better flight times and improved power. They've also added dampeners to the cyclic swashplate links which I surmise is meant to give you less vibration, which in turn may result in additional stability in flight, but I honestly couldn't tell much difference between the version 1 and version 2 as far as this change is concerned (it might just be noticeable in extreme 3d flying which I'm not skilled enough yet to test).
I really liked the original MCp x, and am enjoying the V2 even more. With the new mods, I think Horizon Hobby has retaken the title of best micro collective pitch Heli, and would highly recommend this to both seasoned flyers as well as those moving from fixed pitch or coaxial helis to collective pitch. It flies really well, is very stable in flight, and is very durable if crashed.

Fantastic helicoptor after several modsJan 25, 2012
By Z8 The mCP X has so much potential, but it simply can't realize it as sold.
If you are one of the unlucky 50%, you'll get a tail boom that resonates, or begins to resonate after a few flights, inducing major vibration into the built-in AS3X 3-axis gyro system. This major vibration is not caused by some physical imbalance, but rather by amazingly fast, software-driven over-corrections to sine wave tail boom flex. This can be 100% fixed with the addition of a small carbon fiber boom truss, bracing from the base of the body just above the skid holder to an off-center point on the boom.
Another serious problem that all mCP Xs experience is a strong tendency for the tail to blow out whenever the motor is punched. The included tail motor is a small mCX main motor, and it doesn't have the power to overcome all the torque the mCP X can deliver. Past some point on the throttle/pitch curve, the tail rotor blades cannot generate enough thrust and the heli will spin uncontrollably, until the torque ends or the grounds stops the helicopter. Blade acknowledges the problem and have released a bigger plastic tail rotor blade, but it doesn't fix much of the problem if any.
The are 100% fixes for both of these issues if you web-search for Z8RC and mCP X, but the tail motor fix involves adapting another motor and casing with delicate mods and soldering, probably not fun at all for most people.
Since this is an advanced helicopter, I give it two stars because it needs the major mods to perform acceptably. But the mods only total about $12 and once complete, the copter is truly an amazing aerobatic performer with a rock solid tail and it is incredibly tough.

A Great Intro to CP Flying...Mar 25, 2012
By J. J. Burtch
"In Life, Try to be the Type of Person Your Dog Thinks You Are..."
After flying a coaxial and a small fixed pitch bird, I decided I wanted to move into the collective pitch realm, in order to eventually move up to a 450 or larger sized heli.
I settled on the mCP X V2 due to the Blade name, Horizon's reputation for service, and the fact that I could bind it to the transmitter that I already had (Spektrum DX6i).
I have really enjoyed learning how to fly collective pitch with the mCP X v2. It's been an amazing training tool. It's so small and light that when you do manage to crash it (and I have crashed it...ummmm...let's just say numerous times) that you very rarely have to actually replace something. Instead, usually what happens is a ball link pops off. You just pop it back on, and you're good to go.
Let me mention that with this bird, as with I think just about any collective pitch bird, a computerized programmable radio is almost a must. I was able to use my DX6i to really tame some of the settings on the mCP X v2 to make it fit my skill level. The nice thing about this aspect is that as I get better, I can continue to adjust the settings on the radio and the heli can really grow with me.
I would also like to comment on how cool I think the heli looks. For a small thing, it does really look pretty sharp.
I also find that it flies much "larger" than it is. I have a Blade 120 SR, which is a bit larger than the mCP X v2, but the mCP X v2 flies much better outdoors even though it's smaller, mainly due to it's collective pitch design and it's MUCH higher head speed than the fixed pitch 120 SR.
If you're looking to get into CP flying, then I think you would be pretty hard pressed to find a better way to do it than the mCP X v2. Get yourself a nice radio and a few extra ball links and be in business for a good long time!!!
Just to note, once you do get very proficient with the bird, there are options out there to upgrade it's main motor and it's tail that will make it even faster and more awesome. I'm not to that, yet, but I hope to be one day!!

Blade mcp X V2 - Advance pilots onlyMar 12, 2012
By JROO I have grown up in RC and every year it amazes me how compact, accurate and fun to fly this industry has become. A few years back I joined the Park Zone world to get back in flying planes. The ease of flying at my local park vs. nitro and memberships at a flying club truly got me back in! I have since gotten into Heli as the park and back yard options continue to rise and shine. I purchased a TREX back in 2010 thinking my airplane flight capabilities could get me into a more advanced Heli. WRONG I soon gave up as the parts, batteries and time spent fixing was 10 times greater than any planes I fly. I soon parked my TRex and went back to planes. Late last year I decided to give the BLADE brand an try and bought the 120SR. This craft is amazing for Beginner to Intermediate flyers. The 120SR is best flown in a park, with light to zero wind and is an excellent trainer. Start here as it is the most versatile craft with gyro and tail rotor.
Now, that's the history. This review is for the mcpX that I received yesterday. This thing is amazing in the right hands! It is an advanced and technical Heli much like my TREX. With that said, what a blast!!! I feel like I'm starting from square 1 or 2 but feel challenged. I fly the mcpX in the park by my house with grass so crashes are soft (in fact, grassy parks is best for the my 120SR as well). Flight time is also extremely short so order extra batteries for sure. There is nothing that cannot be done with the mcpX. Upgrades I'm sure are nice but I am extremely please with what comes out of the box. On some tough hits, the gear slides off the motor gear. Just apply pressure and from gear or battery to top of main gear to slide it back up onto the motor. For the price, the is the easiest and least expensive way to improve your Heli skills. I'll be back to my Trex in no time...
**** THe RPM's on the blades are suuuppper fast and will damage and injure people, pets any property it bumps into***
* I am giving it only 2 stars for educational value because you must be intermediate - Expert to fly this.
*Durability is in the user - do not try and learn to fly this on pavement, in wind, or as a beginner. Parts are part of RCing, so far minimal are required. 4 stars as I have put this thing in the grass a few times and it's really too light for major issues thus far. Just kill power. Did i mention extra batteries??? Yes Get 5 or so and a battery extension rack for your charger. Always leave Lipo batteries charged after use too.
* 5 stars for Fun as there is nothing that cant be done with the mcpX. Such a cool micro Heli
Have at it boys and girls...
Great CP HeliMay 18, 2012
By Ko Jones The Blade mcpx is by far the best sub-micro CP heli in the market. This is not a beginner's heli, but it will teach you proper collective management. If you are already familiar with FP (fixed pitch) helis and want to take it to the next step, then look no further. The mcpx handles moderate winds quite well, but it becomes quite twitchy and bumpy when exposed to gusty winds.
Tail hold could be better, but it does a decent job. Some users will modified the tail boom by using a longer, solid carbon fiber rod. I have not done this mod yet, but I have seen modified mcpx's and they hold the tail better than the stock form.
The provided batteries are ok, but I recommend you get some aftermarket packs to add more juice and flight time. I can squeeze about 5 minutes out of the stock batteries, and about six minutes when using Hyperion's 250mAh batteries.
One of the advantages of owning an mcpx is that many hobby shops carry plenty of parts. If you crash, you can easily get this little guy back in the air after a quick trip to your LHS. Parts are not too expensive, and if you can't get them locally, there are hundreds of online stores carrying parts for the mcpx.
Overall, I am very satisfied with this heli and highly recommend it to anybody who is ready to jump into CP helis. I think this is the best "real simulator" you can get since it can fly very similar to bigger choppers.
