1never againSep 20, 2008

We had been looking at K'nex and received this set as a gift for my son, who loves Legos. We were really excited, as it looked cool and different. Excitement quickly turned to frustration and disgust. The instructions are not clear enough for him to do it himself, and were unclear even for an experienced toy-building adult. This resulted in repeated rebuilds, which was made all the more frustrating because the bricks don't stick together well and fall apart mid-build. I finally finished it. Snapping these bricks together is painful on the fingers, and I have had to rebuild it several times a day, because it falls apart so easily. I like the concept of the fun vertical connectors, but the bricks are horrible. I will be donating these, although that seems cruel to another child. I may just toss them. I wonder if the plastic is recyclable.

2Fun but blocks don't stick together wellDec 21, 2008

I have a lot of k'nex and I really enjoy them. I asked for this toy at
Christmas and was really excited but when I first tried to build it the bricks wouldn't stick and when I finished it the bricks came off; for instance, the back and the front areas wouldn't hold. On the other hand, the rods and connectors are superb. I would recommend the k'nex launcher series instead, which is my favorite.

1Disappointing and I would expect moreOct 27, 2009

I always expected K'nex to be equivalent to legos in terms of quality. These truck toys for 5+ are junk. The instructions are very hard to follow. My 5 year old can put together Lego Bionicles for the 10+ age group and can not build these labelled as 5+. They also don't stay together and are constantly needing to be rebuilt. Finally the location of the battery holder requires you to disassemble to replace the batteries - how ridiculous! I thought these were the perfect kind of gift for a 5 year old boy but am very disappointed!

1Buy Legos insteadFeb 28, 2009

Can I just say how inferior these are to Legos? If it hadn't been a gift I would return it. I am so frustrated right now after putting this together. I had to do it for my son because the instructions are so incredibly poor. I had to do multiple rebuilds to get it right. And at every step another piece or section falls off. What is the point if the child can't put it together? It's kind of cool once it's together but it doesn't do much and we don't dare try to ever rebuild it. It will be on it's way to the thrift store within the month.

2Fun? Try Frustrating!!!Jan 16, 2009

I am actually reviewing the dump truck out of this series, but can't find it on Amazon. I can't imagine it is any different from this specific toy, so I'm submitting my review. Our 5 yo son is quite adept at putting together the most difficult lego sets. Things that I've had trouble with he just gets. He has used K'Nex before and really enjoyed them, so imagine his delight when he got this for Christmas. Well, what a pain in the you-know-what!!! We spent the last week of vacation gradually building this dump truck. First, the pieces are near to impossible to get to snap together in most cases. That, or they don't stay together at all! And, once you've followed each section of instructions, trying to get the next component onto what you've built to that point without the rest of it falling apart is next to impossible! Even we adults could NOT complete this thing!!! Many tears from our son who really just wanted to play with the darn thing! My suggestion for an age range on this toy is more like 10+. I can't imagine a child who would not be disappointed with this!
