Great toy but this set is not what you buy firstMar 12, 2010
By Will My 6 yr old adores Rokenbok. We got a few items "used" to try it out initially and have been adding to the collection since. The set listed here is an accessory -- *** you need a starter set with vehicles and the radio control before you buy anything else***. The basic girders/connectors are quite sturdy, but they can break if you try to disassemble them without using the included tool. what breaks are the tiny tabs or "ears" that allow the items to connect, but they are cheap to replace. The vehicles appear bulletproof. I strongly advise that you buy a large set of rechargeable batteries - each vehicle requires 3 or 4 batts. This toy system is flat out awesome - I enjoy playing with it and I am in my 40s, so it's something that parents and kids can enjoy together -- the radio control is very simple and easy to use, and makes the whole experience much more realistic for the kids. You can also have up to 4 controllers so 4 kids can be driving vehicles at the same time, no wires to interfere with the vehicles, and they can switch vehicles with the press of a button. My 3 yrs old has already figured out how to use this. And the building bases are designed to work with LEGO - so you can add LEGO bricks to the structures in certain places.
You need a decent amount of space to enjoy having multiple sets operating, like the monorail for instance. I'd say 4x4 is absolute minimum - 4x8 is better if you end up with 3 or 4 accessories and 5 or 6 vehicles. We just have it on a carpeted floor and it works great. You can see some crazy sets on ebay if you want to see what is possible.

Confusing rip offDec 25, 2006
By Richard C. Lowry The instructions are horrible and way above the head of the targeted age group. FURTHERMORE, THE BOX SAYS REMOTE CONTOLLED- MAYBE SO, BUT WHILE IT ALSO SAYS VEHICLES NOT INCLUDED- IT DOESN'T SAY- VEHICLES ARE A NECESSARY SEPERATE OPTION TO MAKE IT FUNCTIONAL.
Christmas morning was not as happy as it should have been.
