The classic AMT 1957 Chevy model kit stripped to the stock basics.Sep 10, 2011
By Don S. If you've built model car kits during the last 50 years, there's a really good chance you've built the 1/25-scale AMT 1957 Chevy kit. It's been available almost constantly since it was first released way back in 1962! I first had this kit back in the late 70s when every K-Mart in the land stocked it with the classic "Pepper Shaker" drag racer on the box side. Over the years, the box has changed, as have some of the parts, but the basics have remained constant. This latest version deletes all the custom parts, leaving only pieces to build a stock '57 Bel Air. What's there is nice. The plastic parts are molded in a light metallic aqua, clear, and trans. red. The tires are black vinyl (you have to paint the whitewalls) and the chrome parts are nicely plated. There's a sheet of decals too, but the classic Pepper Shaker markings aren't there not that they're promised. You'll need model glue and paint if you want to detail it like shown on the box. It's a classic kit with a lot of charm, and it's highly recommended if you want to build a stock '57. It builds up easily, and will look good if you take your time. Note that the kit is 1/25 scale, not 1/24 as the description says.
