Great idea, execution not perfectApr 08, 2011

I was really excited to get this stringing set after having purchased the farm set by Alex. The animals in that set are finished all the way around, sides, front and back. I was expecting the ABCs to be the same quality. While the wood and string are the same great quality as the farms set, the letters themselves are only finished on one side. The sides and backs of the letters are white. This means that if you string the letters, you have to keep on flipping them to the right side to see the letter. This makes sense when stringing (otherwise a P would face the wrong direction), but it does make playing with the letters independently a bit harder.
I do like this set. I am just disappointed that Alex chose to not put the same amount of effort into this set as it did the Farm Animals (that one gets 5 stars).

Much better than M&D!Apr 15, 2011

We purchased these for my son for christmas after using them at our local children's museum. My son loves using the wooden needle to thread the beads along and now that we are working on letter sounds building some words. The colors are bright and attractive. I love the fact that the alex brand uses a lace with a wooden needle at the end. It really makes it easier for little hands to manipulate. When he has playdates kids tend to gravitate towards this toy which I keep stored in a tin bucket. This toy does not come with a carry-case or box to keep it in which is a bit of a downside. I would still purchase this again and I'm considering ordering a complimentory set for easter.

Awesome learning toyFeb 20, 2011
By M. Gremaud I loved that you could pick the different sets so you can use for different learning other than stringing beads.
Only thing that I wasn't happy with is that the string was too long, stretches too easy, only one string . I would prefer a better string that didn't stretch and have two sets of string. The string is so long that I am worried about chocking with my son.

YAY For ABC's!Feb 19, 2011
By bugsmama Anyone can play with boring old lacing beads - which is a learning tool regardless, but THIS is 10x better for a beginning lacing tool in that they can also teach the alphabet! My daughter is about to turn 2 & she just LOVES these things. She calls them her "ABCDEF's" I almost didn't buy them because I wasn't sure I wanted to spend $15 on a string of beads... But the fact is - it's WAY more than just a string of beads & I'm SO glad I decided to get them! I even think I got a friend interested in purchasing a set soon too. BUY THEM - you won't be disappointed!
Great setMar 10, 2012
By rach My 21m old can almost do these by himself! Great for fine motor skills. Adorable little letters too. I keep the string away from him when I am not around.
